Just finished Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore (on the laptop), a strangely surreal and enjoyable read - not everyones cup of tea. That makes about a half dozen of his that I've read and I have two books of his short stories waiting to read.

Mobertol: Listened to Jeanette Winterson's latest book on Radio4 about a month ago, don't know what the book's like.

I finished Jodi Picoult's Plain Truth on New Years Eve........I gobbled the last couple of chapters down like a starving man.......now I am really sorry.....sorry, that I have finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was not prepared for all the twists and turns in the story....and especially not the ending.
I will definitely be reading that one again.

I'm reading that at the moment......it is a real gripper too.
I was a bit put off Jodi Picoult at first.......I read one of her books and found it a bit depressing....can't quite remember which one it was now, but it put me off.
These last two have been very enjoyable though.

Have you read Change of Heart? I think thats proibably my favourite. Salem Falls and Harvesting the Heart are both good too.

Another good author to try if you like Jodi Picoult is Diane Chamberlain. She writes very similar but without the Courtroom stuff. Try The Lost Daughter and The Courage Tree, both very, very good.

Thank you for the recommendations.
I am going to write them down and then if they come on Amazon for the Kindle at a reduced rate I will get them...of if I spot them in the charity shops. Despit5e having the kindle I am still a sucker for the charity sho book sections.:)

I know what you mean. I can't walk past a Charity Shop without scooting in for a look at the books. It drives my partner and daughter mad lol.

I've not got any of those books any more, but I recommended them to a friend, so I will see if she has still. I get a lot of my books from a swap site which is great.

Just finished this book " The Reluctant Tommy" what a great thought provoking book.
Its about a young 17 year old lad who is in love with a 16 year old girl but goes off to war in WW1 so eager and so in love with the girl but after seeing the horror of passchendaele and other conflicts becomes a pacifist even to the extent of aiming the artillery away from the enemy so they don't get hurt.
its a really good book .
By The Way this is a true story its the memoirs of Ronald Skirth
if you want to read it please pm me the book as with all the others in the gallery are free.

The Day after Roswell by Philip Corso.
I downloaded it free here -
The day after Roswell - Philip Corso - 1998.pdf
It gives an insight into an insiders view of the Korean War and the cold war, and appears to reveal the source of much of the 'new technology' we use today.
I'm only half way through it - have only broken off reading to eat and to post this - fascinating stuff!
