Re: The Queen

I think it was about 1953. I remember standing outside the town hall.

Re: The Queen

It might have been in the first part of 1954. I was still at Peel Park (which I left in July 1954), and we were all wheeled out to stand in Burnley Road near the corner of Alice Street. I seem to remember it being quite a nice sunny day.

Re: The Queen

Our Queen came up north on 13th April 1955, she arrived in Morecambe at 10.00 amand made her way to Southport calling at different towns en route. On 14th April she arrived at Darwen for 10.00am on to Blackburn when she stopped at the Mullard factory before going onto Accrington town hall for 12.35pm , then onto more towns before leaving from Colne at 4.55pm.
My dad was presented to her at Mullards and has saved his invite, menu from lunch etc. I inherited them in 2007 when he died.

Re: The Queen

Her Majesty has certainly been to Rishton as I am just cleaning up a reel of film footage of it, recorded by one of my residents.

It was in 1967.

Re: The Queen

Interesting take on Her Maj on the Italian news this evening.

Juxtaposition with Maggie Thatcher -how Lady T wanted to be Queen back then but Her Maj was actually the Iron Lady, quite clever.
