its a pain ,, similar thing happened on our rd some months back now where there was a huge crowd of kids jumping in and out of gardens/riding up and down on a mini moto thing must have been about 2 am ish i just phoned 999 and they soon dispersed...

The correct procedure is to phone 999, tell the operator about the disturbance but also tell him that you may have seen a gun in the pocession of one of the kids. With a bit of luck, armed cops will turn up and blow half the little brats away before questions are asked.

At first reading of this thread I was pretty shocked that you got an answering machine and that your local police stations "close" down at night. Then got to thinking must be because at some point in the past, wasn't much trouble around for local coppers?

Our police forces over here are much more "active" unfortunately. If something like that had happened in Downtown Culpeper, you'd have had at least 3 Sheriff (County cops) vehicles, 4 -5 town cop cars, and then at least 2 State Troopers. These would have arrived in 2 minutes - 10 minutes.

The He-men and He-ladies of our police forces love to throw their bravado around in those situations. That why we no longer have that vicious Hell's Grannies Gang around here!:p

...and I bet they're well tooled up as well - '45 automatics, Remington pump-action with solid shot, M-16's...the lot. What have our cops got? Nowt only a bit of a stick and a packet of pepper if they're lucky. No wonder the kids end up giving 'em gyp; and even if they arrest the little toads, the cops end up being sued for wrongful arrest.

No, we need to end this liberal do-gooding nandy-pandy nonsense and start giving back full powers to the cops and give 'em the tools to do the job. Reintroduce the Riot Act and lets see a fews heads cracked and some claret on the cobbles with no questions asked; any riff-raff that survive then lock 'em up for life.

Mmm,some little miscreants round this way tonight (avenue parade) shouting obsceneties and generally abusing any poor person who happens to walk past,about 10-15 of em,about 13 years old and above,think they've gone now,but what a nuisance.Where are their parents???? either sat on their lazy arses getting ****ed off special brew or sat oblivious to the fact that little timmy darling is actually a little toad who wants a bloody good hiding!

Before considering an armed police force, think of the US experience. With police armed to the teeth (and beyond) the US still suffers from one of the highest crime rates in the world. The gun mentality thing just doesn't work as a deterrent. Nor does excessive force and heavy duty punishment.

Perhaps what does work is a police presence. They have to be around when late night s**t happens. We have 4 local police forces. The KPD looks after the city, but they can call in the Ontario Provincial Police, or, if the lads from the base are getting out of hand, the Military Police. And the RCMP ride horses and bring in the tourists, when they are not busy with federal bs.

Time and again in discussions like this one, people talk about the lack of good parenting ... maybe they are right ... the rowdies usually have homes and families ... what is going on there? Are parents avoiding the responsibility of childrearing, hoping that the cops will sort out problems later on.

Well basically it goes like this,the yob culture know they can get away with their behavour in an under-policed environment.At the very worst they eventually get an ASBO (street cred incarnate).
Should the law abiding citizen/house owner try to stand up to the yobs,he risks,
A) a beating B) being arrested for giving the yob a slap.
Things will never change until the imbalance is redressed,****** the human rights of the yob.Give the power and protection of the law back to those who are under attack,and mostly pay the taxes for the afore mentioned police.
But don't blame the police,blame the politicians and the pious do gooders,those who make the laws are usually insulated against the effect.
