Didn't suggest that owning a flag was racist.

Didn't call anyone a nazi- find the suggestion that I did offensive.

Asked the question if the venue was a BNP haunt because the BNP frequently adourn their favoured establishments in this manner.

No its not fair that the flag has been used in this way.

No I dont feel that a pub displaying the tricolor is an IRA venue- Why? because the IRA was a terrorist organisation opearting in a covert manner. The BNP, National Front are incomparable.

We only went to the Stag because the beer was cheap...and the Nuremberg Bierkeller is booked up on Saturday nights.

There's a definite flaw in your logic here - as I've said, I don't know if the BNP adourn(sic) their establishments with the Union Flag. However, assuming they do, does it, therefore, follow that every place that displays the Union Flag is a haunt of fascists?

Not very good- offensive, misjudged and inappropriate.

No it doesnt BUT an establishment which chooses to display the union flag extensively within and without its premises may be perceived as subscribing to this belief system.
If the pub/club was actually trying to reclaim the flag from these arseholes then I would commend their actions as brave. However the motivation behind their decison would not be known and therefore COULD be perceived (albeit possibly unfairly) in this manner.

It is something that has always made me wonder, why is it that in England we are scared to show our support for our country by flying the flag when I go in to shops, schools and bars in the USA and see them every where. I am sure that no one would ask if it was a white supremist classroom I was teaching in!!

It's the same in Scotland. You see their the St. Andrew's saltaire displayed everywhere, and that's not seen as being racist.

I think Rosehip is a little out of date anyway. The far right gave up the Union flag as a symbol of extreme nationalism, thirty years ago. The flag of choice is now Burberry.

Because the Stars and Stripes has not been bastardised by the far right in the states. Its got absloutely nothing to do with patriotism. I have simply asked the question in the context of how the Union flag has been adopted for a number of years in this country by extremist groups which have tainted its image.
