Re: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Right in the centre there are some 40 daffodils in a tight circle surrounded by bunches of 5 different coloured crocuses and these are surrounded by a ring of some 200 snow drops.

thats quite alot of bulbs to grow in such a small space..

Sadly only about 50 snowdrops poked their heads up so that sort of ruined the display a bit.

could be because they were planted too close together?

Over in the back right hand corner my personal bluebell wood is showing signs of life with a bunch of foreign bluebells at the apex of a triangle and over 100 bluebells filling up the remainder.

I hope you dont live near the countryside or near public parks as its not advised to plant foreign bluebells in the uk cos they are a more vigorous plant than our english one which is slowly dying out due to the foreign being more aggresive and more of a hybrid..

Alongside the fence on the left the Foxgloves have survived but I don’t think that the Hollyhocks and Lupins have managed to. But you never know there may be something underground just waiting for the warmer weather. I’ll have to re-sow them in April if not.

your hollyhocks may have gotten rust? thus bumping them off...or your soil wasnt quite correct..

The rest of the garden will be sown with meadow flowers come April and the perimeter will sport things like the yellow poppy and antirrhinums.

snapdragons are ace and you cant have enough of them in a garden..

I will try and dig out some snaps of my back yard..

some pics of my back yard...

every single bit of that yard re-done - it was a challenge for me to see what i could do with a square empty yard..
so I took up all the old flags (was fed up having them pinched, completely dug out by me, laid an 8 inch base for my new flags - which was done by me, all borders built up, filled, planted and maintained by me...took me 2 weeks in the sun and rain which is why it may look slightly rough but all done and I love it..
those pics were taken last year - regardless of what the date says:rolleyes:..
I would love a big garden like jambuttys, I have too many ideas in my head when it comes to gardening, and after doing mine I still think about taking some bits up and changing them...
I reckon I could give any small gardening firm a run for their money if I were to go down that road.. I have customers, the contacts and the experience...but they dont need to worry just yet...one day though..;)

I think Jambutty's garden shows a lot of promise. It can take quite some time to get things the way you want them, especially if you have to rely on someone else for the heavy labour. He did say, after all, that there are other things to be planted. As a keen gardener myself I'd be preparing the grassy bit for reseeding next month to really show off the flowers.

really, didn't look like it in that picture of the little weed you sent me.

JB your garden is lovely, I agree with Glasgow guy about planting the bulbs a bit too close together, so the roots are going to all be fighting for the moisture, which judging by the look of the earth, is not plentiful.

I think it's promising though, so I hope you'll get the rest planted and we can see more pictures :) our garden is rubbish compared to yours :D

I'll bet the Digger could give you a good haircut and get rid of that stubble in quick time.

When was the last time you tried to grow anything apart from that poor excuse for a beard?:behead:
