as a keen gardener myself I would buy a rake first and clear up the leaves etc which wont be doing any good to his balding lawn then some new/more grass seed..
and its unusual how his lawn becomes his flower beds...or is that his beds that become his lawn?

Hi Jambutty.

Never mind the critics, you should have seen our garden when we got it, we filled three 6 ton skips with rubbish before we could even start to grow any thing.

Just dig in plenty of compost in the flower beds before planting.
Poppies be careful they are very invasive and can soon take over.
Snow drops can be critical as to the depth they are planted.

Just remember plants like human beings require food. We have 3 big compost bins going full time.

what a complete waste of a great greenhouse !
all your own fruit and veg on tap, along with cuttings and flowers grown from seed or total clutter - I know what I would rather have...

I laughed till i cried at all the answers on here.

Aleks leave Jen alone
:hitting8: and stop being nasty to jambuttys grandson.

Wish I had a green house like that, crime that its full of tools.
I've only got the two 6*6 roofs and a 4 7metre lawn borders, I do try to do them, but watering them's a struggle. I'm going to try to fit automatic sprinklers this year.

The spider plants are taking over one border I didn't think spider plants were hardy but they come back every year bigger than before.
My cordyline is the same, and is now pot bound and several feet tall, I plan to replace that this year
Going to try to get my spot lights done too, although if I buy a new one it won't be big enough to light up. The back garden roof is the nicest, I've got a little water feature on there, the water echos through the landing when the windows open in summer. This ones all lit at night, one shines on the water and throws rippling reflections on the wall. Councill don't like it though, Miseries keep writing to me accusing of breaking the windows when I climb out.
Ahh thoughts of summer days of planting out, then reaping the rewards drinkin a nice cold beer. Lets hope we have a nice summer this year.

Re: How Does Your Garden Grow?

My very limited gardening experience, glasgow guy, has taught me that bulb flowers are never at their best in the first year of planting. With snowdrops being planted close to the surface they were prone to attack from marauding creatures like a three legged squirrel, field mice and cats. It will look better next year.

What is laughingly described as soil in my back garden could well be the reason why the hollyhocks died off. Although each plant was enclosed in its own biodegradable pot filled with proper compost so they did get a good start.

I think that you have done a good job with what is after all a back yard.

I’m aiming for a wild flower garden with a few cultivated flowers around which should be better than it was – a field of grass that could have hidden a herd of wildebeest.

That greenhouse is the wifes. mine is in another part of the garden and is 15 ft long. Usually grow tomatoes and the like, also start my other crops off in there, when it gets a bit warmer.
