I think I've asked before but can't be bothered looking, does that mean the Co-Op took over from Woolworths ?

Was the Co-Op not where Redmans was? Not sure myself now, can only remember about Redmans because I used to do errands for an old lady who was very particular where you went for her food. Redmans was one shop she insisted on and Catlows was another.

The Co-op was definatley what became Mcdonalds. I vaguley recall a shop next door but can't remember if it was Redmans, for some reason I seem to recall Dewhurst butchers being there ?

Woolies was on the corner of Dutton Street and Blackburn Road, then after they moved out in 1961 to the (then) new shops on Broadway, it became the Co-op. More recently it became Macdonalds and then a restaurant. Dewhursts was further along the block towards Church Street. Redmans was on the next block, opposite the Town Hall at the St James Street corner.

I still can't recall Redmans being there. When did it close down. Was about early 80's when I worked at Co-op.

I remember Redmans in Nelson though :D

Before my time. It was a Scottish guy called Ian when I used to go in (circa 1968-72). Went in for a quick pint a few weeks ago, before I went into the library for the Stanley exhibiton - totally unrecognisable from the pub it once was.
