No real socialist can win any General Election ... the Tories and their press machine have put paid to any illusion of that ..the media claim to be neutral.. same as some bods on here... but they spend all thier time defending a slash burn Government who are hell bent on the destruction of everything this country has built up over the last 50yrs.. they are a disgrace!

They are not hell bent on the destruction of Trident .

And it was a Labour government that made Britain a nuclear power .

You disagree when I say that Socialism is dead .

Yet you say that no real socialist can win any General Election .

Are we not saying the same thing in different ways ?

I agree with you , Jaysay , that heating allowances should be means tested . That is as long as the means testing does not prevent one single person who needs the allowance being left out .

I have exactly the same feelings about child benefit as well JCB, why should a home with £75000 plus coming each year receive an sort of government hand outs

What you say is fair and makes sense .

My only concern is that any in need should not miss out .

There would have to be a rigorous regime set in place to ensure that those in need get what they are entitled to . But where there's a will there's a way .

Why, what did they do wrong other than support the country, bail out our money in the banks, improve schools and hospitals...Didn't Mervyn King admit it was the bankers that have caused this financial crisis?

Oh, and maybe if many Tory supporters with offshore bank accounts paid the tax they should, we could resoup some money.

Maybe we are saying the same...I'd say the real socialism that created the NHS, national pensions, child benifit has gone when talking about winning a General election.. mainly because the tories have always opposed them ..and the right have total control of the media.... but I don't think the idea of socialism is dead.
