Glad festers gone, but then who isn't.

Shame there was only a 44% turnout, and even less for the referendum. Maybe voter apathy is something out elected members should try to tackle.:D

44% is a decent turnout for local elections. We were expecting it being lower than that.

You have inherited a potentially illegal budget, because it appears to contain savings that are a figment of someone's imagination. Reasonable questions that were asked at budget time were dismissed not just by the Cabinet, but also by the Scrutiny chairman who should have been asking them.

My advice is to get Miles to put an immediate block on all the Tory spend, spend, spend proposals, ask Management Team for an update on spending and savings, (by first thing Monday morning) and seek an early meeting with the external auditors to discuss the extent of the problem.

Otherwise the proverbial will hit the fan in 9 months time.

Point taken.

Regrettably, Cllr Britcliffe left long before I could go and wish him well in his new role.

Ya mean Stan wasn't happy, but I'm sure he didn't get the same treatment as Monica Browning did some years ago when after losing here seat to labour, was unceremoniously told to F off you dried up old cow, when she wanted to shake hands after the count:rolleyes:

That was a combined figure, including his L.C.C. expenses.

He will lose his allowance for being council leader, and I'm sure he may well lose many, if not all, of the chairmanships he holds...he was chair for 8 committee's according to HBC website.

Expect the unexpected.
The split in the coalition widens daily.
If the coalition collapses, we may get another general election.

I can't promise that I won't slip it in there once or twice though.....

I don't know if this will happen. From the results I've seen, the Lib-Dems don't seem to have any options other than staying in the coalition, and keeping their fingers crossed that things will get better for them. Maybe it depends on whether or not the Tories think they can manage to get a majority on their own. If they don't think that this is possible, they have as much invested in maintaining the coalition as do the Lib-Dems. It seems like they are stuck in a rotten marriage where divorce isn't an option:rolleyes:

And congrats to Labour, and to all those who took the trouble to vote, for whatever party:alright:

When it comes to campaigning for the next election(National), it is going to be pretty hard for the Tories and the Lib Dems to stand side by side and shred each others policies when they have been in government together....and as such, responsible for the policies they are condemning.
I can't wait to see how this works.....although, if I am honest, I thought it would all be washed up before now.
