Oh :( I'm a bit gutted I can't go.

I'm not a royalist or anything, but it would be interesting. I suppose it will be on the news and stuff. Anyone know if there are any other reasons for her visiting other than to "express her thanks to people throughout the country for their continued support and loyalty."? Anything special happening in Accy around that time or is it just a random date for her to visit?

She became Queen the minute her Dad died in 1952

Just a thought, if she wasn't crowned officially until June 1953, is it really her Diamond jubilee this year or should it be held next year?:D

In my role as natural corrector though not Tippex this time ;), that would be the jubilee of her coronation - this year is the jubilee of her accession - 60 years on the throne.

From Wikipedia: The coronation usually takes place several months after the death of the previous monarch, as it is considered a joyous occasion that would be inappropriate when mourning still continues. This also gives planners enough time to complete the elaborate arrangements required. For example, Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June 1953, despite having ascended the throne on 6 February 1952, the instant her father died. The throne is not left vacant and the new monarch succeeds the old one immediately.

Here endeth the lesson... :)

Does that mean she might be back next year too? :D

I wonder if she'll send herself an ofiicial letter of congratulations -my mum sent off for one for my grandparents diamond anniversary...she could always get one of her ladies in waiting to sign it.;)

It is possible a shop or business in Accrington is not closing down that day, indeed an occasion fit for Royalty these days :0

Good idea, Jay.

It is a particularly nice one and quite sturdy, if in need of a lick of paint...

Perhaps if it was shipped down quickly enough, Her Maj might be tempted to rest her weary royal limbs on it for a moment so she could fully enjoy the beauty of Accrington's Market Hall and Town Hall and the flower towers:D

She might even meet some Accywebbers -is no-one thinking of sending a delegation?

I have a funny feeling the police might do their job that day and sort them out before they create havoc
