Re: How bad were YOUR Ancestors ?

My family were, obviously, saints. There isn't a mention of my maiden name. Mind you that could just be because, until about the middle of the 19th century, the spelling was erratic and my great-great grandfather, who had about 12 children between 1840 and 1860, spelled his name however the whim took him at the time when he went to register them. Well, he was a blacksmith, not a clerk.

Perhaps not unsurprisingly there were a lot for my surname - Knight - 860. Fortunately, I only married into the family so can't really call them my ancestors. My family name only had 10 entries which means that, as I had already suspected, I come from a far more respectable line than my husband.

Re: How bad were YOUR Ancestors ?

If you click on the heading in each of them you can read the trial proceedings and see the sentance which in a lot of cases was DEATH even for something small

Oh well if the sentence for most was death im surprised that daddiboo even exists!!

Theres 30 odd pages of his surname, mostly theft.

But as for my surname its like my dad said only 2 for us we are either well behaved or just never got caught!! hee hee

Re: How bad were YOUR Ancestors ?

There are 180 pages with my surname but in a lot of them my ancestors were the victims of crime! phew what a relief. reading them will keep me quiet for a while. Well done Mick for finding it & thanks for posting it.

There are a few with my married name, but on reading it appears that the Judge was called Sir Thomas Pilkington and he was the Mayor of London.......don't think I'll tell hubby that...it would make him insufferable. Only 3 with my maiden name.......looked at my maternal Grandma's name and there are pages and pages.
This genealogy lark must be very interesting......can see how you could easliy get hooked.
