I have never yet not managed to get to work due to the weather. This weekend might be different but I used to work in Burnley and Preston and always got in.

If us engineers don't get in they would struggle to run production without us. That mean big financial losses for the company.
Yes i believe they should be paid or make the time up another day if its genuine. I to have always managed to get to work not an option really when you work in a hospital unless you live a real distance away and it is impossible, due to motorway closers etc.
Its not the fault of the teachers if authorities close the schools.

The head teacher decides in most cases.

If like Hyndburn Park it is because of burst pipes then I agree with you. If the school is closed just because the teachers can't get to work then I don't agree

Re: School closures

My college has closed today due to adverse weather conditions also a meeting i was supposed to attend in Nelson cancelled, so i telephoned work to see if everyone had turned in as i was willing to work if they were short staffed. All staff have arrived at work and no one has called in for the afternoon shift due to the adverse weather conditions so people can get to work.

They might be able to get in to work, but as the snow is showing no signs of abating, what provisions are being made for these hardy souls to get home....or are they proposing to bed down in their place of work???

Re: School closures

All Saints C of E in Clayton le Moors will not re-open tomorrow, this is due to not only the adverse weather conditions but also flooding in 3 classrooms.. anyone who has children who attend should check school website for further updates...

You thought correctly Gayle, I was talking to him in the park while defrosting the animals.

Re: School closures

Seems like some schools have already made the decision not to open tomorrow. Not suprising seeing as the county council won't have made the slightest difference to the roads by then.
