Re: Today in pictures
Sorry DiG, I would have liked to visit both Cathedrals but the coach driver only gave us one hour there and then it was off to the Dock.
If you look at the fifth picture in my second set taken at Albert Dock you will see I tried to get one of the Pope's Wigwam. |

Today in Pictures, it's a walk around Foxhill Bank, in between showers.
1. Well it has been raining. 2. Tinker Brook as it passed through. 3. Its still passing through. 4. The reservoir. 5. The area has become established. 6. A style no longer used. 7. A bit of the football pitches and a bit of the reserve. 8. Looks like Autumn is just around the corner. |

My brother Robert "Zach" Taylor was at Liverpool Uni between 1968 and 73. He stayed very near the Proddy Cathederal and drunk in the pub at the bottom of the street, he told me he had never been inside the cathedral even though he passed it every day.
Somebody mentioned the floods in Todmorden, the photos below were sent to me during last years floods by my brother. Both he and my sister luckily live on the hill side so they wasn't affected by the flood. |

My Aunt and Uncle used to be really high up when they lived in Style House - not sure exactly where they are now but I know they have a railway line which passes behind their garden - hidden behind some kind of embankment... |

Good to hear your brother and sister have escaped the flooding in Todmorden Russell.
Here are a few photos of Paddy's wigwam taken in 2008. We baptised our new camper van by taking it all the way to Southport (!) on a small private site by the pier. Had a couple of days in Liverpool by train and saw the Tall Ships Race. One of the pics shows the Anglican cathedral from the steps of the RC one. John Moores University were having a graduation ceremony there so we didn't see much of the inside of that one. The RC cathedral was under construction I think when I was a student in Preston. I used to go to Liverpool occasionally with my flatmate for concerts at the Philharmonic hall then I had a boyfriend who was teaching there and I used to go and stay with him. He's not a teacher any more... http://www.billstott.co.uk/ |

I wish I had been able to see the Wigwam, I thought the trip was to visit both cathedrals and then Albert dock.
I can't think of anywhere apart from a small stretch of road through Walsden where the railway line get flooded Dianne so I would think your relation would be high and dry. Almost all the track runs higher than the valley. Photographs below are from the Todmorden History society and show Walsden station, the third one is a few hundred yards away and the lady nearest the left of the photo is my grandma. |
