You don't require a droplet kit for that, more like a restraining order.

Yesterday evening a visit to Preston with John o Gaunt Morris men from Lancaster to meet up with the Royal Preston team. The venue was the Continental pub down by the river and the railway bridge at Avenham park. This establishment has suffered a bit over the years but is now a popular watering hole. When I was a student in Preston in the sixties it was one of my haunts as we lived just round the corner.

Anyway here are a few pics of dancers and musicianers, plus some sky if I have room.

Looks like it was a good evening out Sue. Nice selection of instruments and beards -I think the man with the trombone wins for the longest beard. Didn't realise the man with the panama hat could play the accordian :D

Would the trombone count as something with a hole for the competition? I thought the same about that interesting slate wall you posted recently too! ;) (Big hint!)

Thanks, yes it was a good evening, hadn't seen some of those folks for two years or more.

Yes, man in panama plays the squeezebox, I took that photo specially as I have no other record! He enjoys it but he's not very good, doesn't practise. Perhaps I should be grateful he doesn't play much at home - he's off this weekend on a squeezebox gathering on a remote farm in the Peak District nr Sheffield and when they all get together in a metal barn the noise is pretty ear shattering! I did go with him once, but that was cos I wanted to revisit my old haunts - my first job after university was in Sheffield. Now they have a metro - on which I travelled from end to end for nothing with my bus pass!

If you want a bit of history, the traditional instrument for morris dancing is the pipe and tabor - a smqll whistle and a little drum, played at the same time, as seen in the photo of Big Bob the fireman. Not many people play it these days, it's usually more noisy stuff like melodeons and concertinas.

Yes Derek the trombonist has a fine beard but there were one or two others in the Preston team, sadly I didn't get their photos.

Must go through my photos and look for holes...

The man(your man) with the squeezebox reminds me of a house officer I once worked with......a man called Alistair....with a lovely lilting Edinburgh accent which I could mimic to a T(much to his annoyance).

Nice change of pace there, number 3 has an emotion attached, not sure if its "I'm tired" or " I can't do this anymore" but I do like a drum, you can't beat them.

Well Richard has a nice accent - but it's Somerset - and it flummoxes a lot of people - even me sometimes!

Gives me vertigo just looking at that bridge -lovely set of shots. I particularly like number 3 and the little maid in the last picture -nice statues. :)
