Yesterday, I took myself off on a day trip to Beverley(we went with Moving people and had a brilliant day).
So I thought I would let you have a taste of our day out in Beautiful Beverley.

1) This is one of those 'Not there' soldier sculptures. I took this for the shadow...because that is what these men became.
2) An information board about the Royal Flying Corp. Taddy might be interested in this.
3) St Mary's Church in Beverley.
This is a beautiful bit of Architecture. The Minster is lauded, but St Mary's is far more opulent inside
4) A gargoyle(I don't know why,but as soon as I saw this it made me think of an MP)
5) I hope he did not get those teeth on the NHS.
6) Stained glass window at St Mary's church
7) Mother and child in the style of a Russian icon...it might even BE a Russian icon.
8) The ceiling decoration in St Mary's church...Medieval Kings.

It could very well be greek...I have seen Russian Icons which are very similar....but there was nothing on it to say where it hailed from.

Yes, now I have looked agai...I think you are right.
I like my Initials in the top LH corner.

And just to confirm the Greek.... I found this....

MU and RHO (MP) to the left of the Virgin, which are an abbreviation for “Mater” (“Mother”), and the letters THETA and UPSILON to her right, which are an abbreviation for “Theou” (“of God”); thus Mary is the “Mother of God”

A Totally Badass Heron......

I don't recall ever seeing such a mean looking mofo as this heron, when a female mallard and her ducklings swam past I half expected it to swoop down, eat all the ducklings and then eat the mother ala the Killer Rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail..... And they do look totally out of place in trees...

More of beautiful Beverley.
1) Two white telephone boxes. BT Never had the rights to provide Hull (or Beverley) with their telephone service...it was always provided by the council...hence White phone boxes.

2) Inside the old Magistrates court
3) the Brass Eagle lectern in the Minster
4) ornately carved heavy door in the Minster. It is equally ornately carved on the outside too.
5) Alice In Wonderland Sand sculpture in St Mary's Church. It is said that Lewis carroll took the inspiration of the White Rabbit from a carving in St Mary's Church.
6) The organ pipes of the Minster seen from the choir stalls
7) the Minster.
8) Coat of arms in the magistrates court.

9)Ceiling decoration in the magistrates court...Justice.

That's interesting about the telephone boxes... the church in Skipton, next to the castle, has one of those brass eagle lecturns.

I think a lot of churches have Brass eagle lecterns.
And most of them shine impressively.....courtesy or the ladies of the church....well usually.

Yes, it is interesting about the white(or maybe they are more cream than white) public phone boxes.
I only know this fact because my brother lived in Hull for a number of years and he said that they never paid the phone bill to the GPO(as it was then) but to the council....and if my memory serves me right....I think it was a good bit cheaper too.

As for these two phone boxes....they had no phones in them....they are empty...but they serve to remind the people of the past....and I like them.(I know, I am easily pleased)

In my previous life as a tanker driver I was based in Kingston on Hull for a dozen years.
The City had its own telephone system and exchange.
They residents had free calls between others on the system but paid for calls which were routed to other parts of the Country. The phone boxes were white back then, as in your photo.
The City is called Kingston and sits across the river Hull which at times is just a muddy creek. Hence. “Kingston on Hull”
It’s 35 years since I was last there so I’ve no idea if the same telephone system survived.
The City is on the banks of the river Humber.
