What gets you down?

The opposite to flashys thread. What gets you down? What really makes you feel saddened?

Grey days, that all wetting drizzle......a washing machine full of wet washing and no chance of getting it out on the line......grey hairs, crows feet, a flabby torso...low rise jeanss(I mean who on earth wants to see my seven pounds of 'uncooked dough' belly)not being able to see well enough to pluck my eyebrows(focal distance wrong on my bi-focals) OK......these are only minor imbuggerances, and don't need anything much in the way of therapy....sunshine usually helps a lot(though it does nothing at all for the grey hairs or the crows feet - I can get the washing dry....you really have to have your priorities right don't you?).

Well, yes and no.....I despair at the way the world is going, but feel powerless to change it......and I can only do my bit (which isn't much)
I try to find something positive in each day and something to make me smile.
I am really saddened by the fact that children have much more restricted lives in some ways....they can't play conkers....they don't get to play out and do all the things that we did as children growing up....they aren't exposed to any danger...so how can they know how to face danger when they are grown up....they aren't allowed to be competitive...so how do they compete in this world where it is dog eat dog.
They are exposed to violence and bad language so how do they know politeness and goodness....Ok.... these may be sweeping generalisations which are never good...but that is my perspective.

No, there is always a point.....the point is we have a life to live, families to look after....and remember there are those out there who are given the news that their tenure on life is limited......and goodness knows that really does focus your mind. There is always something worth getting up for in a morning.......Carpe Diem.

And if you feel really down, then do something good for someone other than yourself....call in on an old person.....you may be the first person they have seen, to actually talk to, for ages......go and see if you can be a parent helper at a playgroup...yes it might be tiring, but when you see the love of life the children have, maybe it will infuse your own life with some vigour.

Yes, Flashy....do something for yourself every day...even if it is only to take the time to paint your nails or put a bit of lippy on......plant some bulbs in a tub......at least you know that come Spring there will be something cheery poking out of the earth, and better still, that you put it there to grow.
