Re: Club shop

1. enamel pin badges - slow burners but popular as they are cheap and away fans buy them. Two per season and display them properly. keep old ones on display.
2. quirky stuff
3, small wavy flags for the kids to join in with the Ultra displays.
4. red and white printed blow horns.
5. cheap clothing rather than always being the premium stuff thats too expensive for most fans (hoodies at £30? nice but ... put some 15 quid ones in as well)
6. A TEAM PICTURE (framed)
7. Make more use of the players pictures. Ebay has some signed photographs for sale of all the players. Why? They aren't the clubs and they arent Kipax's, so who has been doing them and why are the players being allowed to sign them? Knock it on the head and sell them through the shop.
8. cakes. to eat whilst nattering to shoppie staff!

As Macca said cheaper lines maybe using a local supplier:
where loads of stock dosn't have to be carried and there is no minimum order quantities for the Club maybe a few sizes then as people order using a small deposit system they can be turned around quickly, maybe help put some money back into the local economy.

Training Kit, polo shirts etc. let's see how good this current kit supplier is

Lew is a paid employee of the Club who has been brought in along with the Commercial & Marketing side of the Club, let's see some ideas eminating from the Club for a change, lets see their business accumen and creative ideas freely flow.

Let's see what can be made of the Stanley Brand (I hate that word)

Here's the challenge

I want to buy now tempt me!

Re: Club shop

Just as a follow up a loyalty points system wouldn't go amiss either

Maybe the all singing all dancing C3PO system or whatever it is called for tracking attendees and people who contact the Club if it is installed yet?

Could that have secondary role by dropping special offers running in the Shop or online, any new lines or just all things Stanley related straight into your Inbox.

Now that would be something special communication straight from the Club

On a serious note, something in the shop for away/visiting fans, that just says that they have been to Stanley! Coaster or drip mat type thing? I don't know, but cheap and cheerful, something that the away fan can pick up before or after the match and it says where they have been!! :) Just an idea.

I've got a Stanley tankard but quite a few of my mates have pint glasses with their team's crest on in colour. A good talking point if you leave it at your local so it's up there on the shelf along with Everton, Man Utd Liverpool etc.

lancsdave 10-01-2010 11:07

Re: Club shop

The problem is that many of the items mentioned in this thread require minimum orders to make the venture worthwhile. The bigger clubs can more or less guarantee that if they order a couple of hundred of something then they will sell them without question. Don't think Stanley can do that. Even if they sell enough to cover the costs, the rest are stuck in a stockroom and the venture is a waste of time.

I bet Lew's job is really frustrating. There are thousands of items out there that he probably thinks, 'they would be great'. The problem is getting them at the right price and more importantly the right quantity. Minimum orders are a pain in the backside :(

That is true LD, as you know, but they could also us their nous and utilise the stock into other outlets!!! OK, some of the sales from elsewhere would be robbing Peter, but most would be extra sales - I would have thought?? What do you think, as you have much more experience in this field!!? :)

Re: Club shop

One thing the club could do to boost sales is advertise more. Said this so many times over the last 20 years, but Accrington Stanley are in a uniquely fortunate position. A lot of people have us as their second club, or at least have an affection/interest in us and would like to have a Stanley souvenir. We should be advertising set sale items on Ebay, Amazon (you regularly see Stanley items from "unofficial" suppliers on both these outlets, so it must be worthwhile) and perhaps even taking ads in publications like "When Saturday Comes".

No doubt other outlets would give the sales a chance to be increased. The Internet has to be the best option after the club shop, but that means the customer has to be confident they are going to get the goods and in good time.

I don't think those sales would be robbing Peter, just giving him an option to get them at his own convenience :). At the end of the day as long as the sale is going back to the club with minimum outlay thats what matters.

I think the club do under-estimate the opportunist sale from non Stanley supporters and even non football supporters. As we have said before we do get people loking for a small memento/gift for their Stanley supporting friends/family. Those people are not going to make a special trip up to the club shop to spend a fiver.

Rocket science it ain't, I have dealt with local, national & international suppliers for the last ten years with orders from those suppliers that vary from a few pounds up to Hundreds of Thousands of pounds.

One of the main things I pride myself on is that all suppliers are all treated the same, it can take a little while to build a procurement portfolio up but I would have thought the easiest way for the Club to look for new and possibly established items at the right price that other clubs are selling with no commitment is the internet.

Certain lines of T-shirt, sweatshirt, hoody lines could be produced through giftprint with the addded benefit of helping a local business and maybe using them as part of a town presence that would be mutually beneficial to both parties if is was ageeable for both:)

Simplest easiest no cost way to grab some media attention "New Merchandise Manager appeals for Local Supliers" and see what happens

simple economics.

On its own there would be little or no commercial gain in doing something like this. It would have to staffed six days a week, heating and lighting, rates and rent. Approximate cost of £500 per week. So the shop would HAVE to make a thousand a week at 50% GP just to break even.

However, it would be possible to make more money than we do already just be virtue of having a presence. I would imagine the lottery would make a lot more if there was somewhere to go with your money. We would sell more stock, we would sell more tickets, we would probably increase away travel as well.

Its all ifs, buts and maybes though so would never happen.

Unless someone bought a shop for us and allowed us to use it rent free. The owner would benefit only from the bricks and mortar long term value of the building.

Absolutely and utterly agree with you. To have a stand alone ASFC shop in town would not make commercial sense. So why the hell don't the club get talking to someone who might be willing to provide an outlet for Stanley merchandise in their shop in a mutually beneficial arrangement? A shop which already retails personalised garments and gifts? A shop owned by people who are sympathetic towards Stanley (provided they're treated well by the club)? A shop near the Whalley Road bus stop? The problem is, how could we possibly find anywhere like this? ;)

That's something else that the ideal town centre outlet would have to be...the sort of place where people dropped in for a chinwag, ideally with at least one actual Stanley fan working there. Where COULD we find a place like this?

Yes it is. It was under offer but I think they have changed thier minds now. Could always ask the council for reduced ( free ) rent and staff it with volunteers. That would keep costs down and the council could actually be seen as supporting the club

The thing I liked about Ossy Mills were people from this neck of the woods who would never dream of going to the Club Shop who knew I supported Stanley used to comment that they had seen it and a few had bought Stanley items there.

Which if we are not using it at the moment we are missing out on, it could also work maybe in a smaller way in reverse by the Club Shop stocking a few selected lines & items from the outlet down there (the sweeties would be great). Yankee Candles seem quite popular

Lew is a good lad as said before, he has foresight and a great retail mind.

The trick is going to be keeping it fresh so you keep wanting to go in to see what new lines have arrived, the store I would imagine is steady during the week but that's where the online should kick in and that's where it also needs to kick on wth a potentially billions of customers:eek:

he's doing alright is the lad, got it clean & tidy, well set out, prices clearly marked, off to a good start:)

just a pity we were not up & running with the gear online before the weekend while we had all the media attention and the eyes of the world on us:(

Wasn't it only the scarves and mugs that were Fulham specific ? As far as I know the rest was generic so guess most of it will be a rest of the season job, unless it all sold out :)

I'm sure Lew would love ideas, not sure you can really do things for every league game though.

Re: Club shop

would like to see some more simple affordable stuff e.g tee with big stanley crest on front and various squad numbers & names on back may be effective?

Some big car decals for the back windscreen

Hopefully the media attention will stick around for a while! Now we've shown to the footie world we're not just here to make the numbers up,i do think awin tomorrow night will keep the spotlight on stanley for the right reasons, and then intrest for the stanley brand will follow by which time the online store will be up and running IMHO:)

Accrington Stanley travel to the recent new home of Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon in a Coca Cola Football League Two fixture, kick off 3pm.

Stanley, in our recently adopted Joma kit, will take on Paul Simpsons Shrewsbury side looking to continue a fantastic run that has seen us lose just once in the league since 14th November. Don't forget the new Joma kit that Stanley will be playing in both this season and next is available now from the Stanley Store priced at just £35.99 for season ticket holders or £39.99 RRP for any online orders please email direct to [email protected].

'recent new home' - doesn't look like an anagram of the Shrews home ground - must be an attempt at ambush marketing or something
