Good news in my opinion!!! I like Luke as a person as well as a player and must say that the new formation suits him well!!! :)

Re: Deadline Day

We are more than half way through the month, I would imagine pre-season will be but two weeks away and as it stands we have one person under contract come the end of the month.

It's worrying to say the least as looking back at this time last year a large chunk of the squad was signed up.

I know the season was protracted by a few weeks with the play-offs but we have read bits about answers being from ten days from the original contract offers, by last weekend when some returned from Portugal.

Some may be paper talk and there may be genuine reasons for no official line if that's the case just say so but silence.....

personally i'm very disappointed none seem to have even taken the trouble to say aye or no. its probably the first time the club have been able to offer longer contracts n many of em were rescued from non league obscurity.:( think its a very poor response.

Re: Deadline Day

i think if you look back to last year it was a very similar scenario in mid June. Players will be wanting to keep their options open as long as possible, and if I remember correctly they are paid for June? If that is the case they aren't likely to renew early just in case something else comes up, but now they'll have one eye on not getting paid for July if they are without a club.

Good news on Joycey though, 2 year contract as well eh? That was a bit surprising, not that he doesn't deserve it, but two year contracts at our club are usually reserved for the 'flair' players who we might make money on. Two years for a holding player sends me a message that we are indeed looking to build a team to take us forwards.

dave as we currently stand going for the more conventional 0-0-1 all out attack, craney's going to have to cover a lot of ground but thank god for the new ruling on rush back goalies.....potential life saver!
obviously if joycey signs gonna have to re think tactics but as it stands looks a winner, certainly confuse a few teams

What was on offer last year wasn't 2-year contracts, also was no 10 day deadline as far as i'm aware?:confused:Coley is obviously to me, looking to build on the progress stanley made, i think its very poor none seem to have responded, it is good news about joycey, but then aint a done deal either yet is it?

We had a few players that were half-way through their two year deals last June which protected our "Crown Jewels" so too speak and we had certainly added a few faces as well as losing some by mid-June 2010.

There is also the over-24 scenario as per Symesy last year where we would get nothing if an out of contract player of that ilk leaves.

So a two year deal for players & club may provide much more stability for both parties as well as being a belt & braces approach to similar things happening as well as helping getting market value for the ones under that age bracket?

That is the bit I was trying to put into words - cheers Macca ;) - we have a few in the 21- 23 bracket and we must protect ourselves by offering proper contracts!!

I for one am very pleased to see some forward/sensible thinking... :)

Re: Deadline Day

to be honest i think the majority of the team will resign, together with a few additions, they will be a hard team to beat again next season.
When pre-season starts, thats when the rumours and gossip will kick in !!!! lol
