I'm sure Mags will be on very soon to let us all know how much more dangerous it is to fall on a salt filled pavement than it is to break an ankle.

Doesn't do the roads much good.

Made the Beatles song about Blackburn's four thousand pot holes look positively meagre.

I was so embarrassed. Pity then that the offending post was attributed to the wrong councillor.

This year I confidently predict that a revised scheme will cost up to twenty quid less than the Ł6.6m I 'calculated' in 2010 and that we will probably only be able to provide 8bn bags of grit, not the 16bn I originally envisaged.

My apologies for any flippancy which may have escaped the sarcasm detector.
Got your feet under the table then.

It has actually John, my apologies for being absent for a little while.

The clinical waste collections are going to be one of those neat little ideas that certain people latch on to as a prime example of Labour's scandalous treatment of the electorate and by cutting this vital frontline service it only proves what a bunch of careless morons they really are.

Or something.

In actual fact the clinical waste collections affect less than 60 residents across the whole borough as far as I am aware and changes to classifications of waste mean that there is virtually no loss of amenity at all as it can be safely disposed of with general household waste. The doomsayers out there may be predicting that armies of residents will be forced to flytip tons of radioactive waste and infected needles but the truth is quite different.

A motion on this subject has been moved for Thursday's full council meeting by the Conservatives:

Are you saying that the council just leaves the excess there for the elements to get rid of The council trucks don't give the streets a wash and brush up

Salt and grit only works effectively at dissolving ice down to a temperature of between -10 and -13 degrees so I am told and in the past two years we have had temperatures down to as low as -22 (if my car thermometer and Rishton Towers barometer are to be believed). What doesn't help is people emptying roadside gritbins to treat their own driveways, leaving the roads and pavements in an even worse state.

As far as remnants of grit being left behind until summer, I can't say I found it to be a problem myself.

Here at Rishton Towers I do my bit by getting the servants to empty ashes from the hearth onto bits of Bridge Street which don't have enough grit.

Works a treat and saves those precious salt reserves.

I would have thought that you'd have been quick to point out Peter's contributions to the online world through his Twitter account? He seems very good at holding his own when it comes to knocking the opposition.

I hope nothing libellous comes of it:
