Oh I love reading
I have a few 'on the go' all the time
At the moment, they range from
'The Zombie survival guide' Max Brooks, which is hilarious
'Hindsighted' by Karin Slaughter, serial killer thrill and gore
'The power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle which has had huge impact
'Expect a miracle', Kathy Freston
'How to kill your husband (and other handy household hints)' by Kathy Lette which is funny
and then a load of papers and articles about detrusor instability and irritable bladder..er... hohum... hahaha

I have just finished reading 'The Other Boleyn Girl' by Philippa Gregory and prior to that i read a couple of other books by the same author....'Wideacre' and 'Meridon'.
I can heartily recommend these books to readers who like historical fiction.Although don't be put off by that categorisation, they were both books full of action and passion.

Checked out a new novel by Saul David who is acclaimed for writing history books. His first venture into novel writing is Zulu Hart and I can thoroughly recommend it to lovers of action narratives. The action is based on true events surrounding the British campaign against the Zulu nation, culminating at Rorkes Drift in January 1879 (which features in the film Zulu). A real page turner which I can heartily recommend.

My beloved has just bought me Wilbur Smith's Assegai which I have out to one side until I finish reading Simon Scarrow's Fire & Sword (the third book in his Bonaparte/Wellington quartet) which are extremely informative if a little hard going at times. My trouble is, if I start a book, I just have to stick with it - so Wilbur will have to wait a little longer.

I'm making my way through the work of Chuck Palahniuk. I love his sense of humour.
I find it wicked without being grotesque for the sake of it, which haunts some novels that aim for the same effect.

Have finished Assegai, and although a rollicking good read, I considered it to have rather a disppointing ending for a Wilbur Smith novel. Smith's yarns usually finish with a good old blood and guts finale, but the ending of Assegai, for me, was rather a damp squib.

Have finished Elizabeth Chadwick's 'The Wild Hunt' which is a brilliant read, with a proper beginning, middle and ending. Am currently into her 'Conquest' which again, after only five chapters, I can heartily recommend to fans of historical sagas. I readily identify with Chadwick's style of writing which is accurately researched, correctly located and filled with colourful characters.

Do you reccomend it ? last few books seem to have " lost the plot " the early stuff 'smileys people, tinker tailor soldier spy' etc were real page turners , think the last I read was 'the Constant Gardener'.

as a thread wander, in my opinion , as is the usual case for any decent book* , all his books which have been made into movies have with the exception of the BBC productions (Alec Guiness as George Smiley) have been total cow dung :D

* possible exception, Harry Potter , never read the books , but enjoyed the movies on DVD

Watchers was the first one of Koontz books I ever read 20 years ago, have you noticed Restless how his style has changed over the years to more subtle horror rather than the out and out scary stuff, The Odd Thomas series was very good, have ordered Relentless, I actually collect his books, think I'm only missing one which is Funhouse

Ya in his early books like Watcher and Lightening it was based on monsters but has he's moved on he has gone more on the more human issues and thing that are not as fare fetched as his earlier works. He actually wrote a few books under another name, just for got what name he used but one of the books was Door to December, which he later released under Dean Koontz, round abut the same time he dropped the "R" out of his title, Watchers was Dean R. Koontz

He only uses Dean Koontz now Restless, and has done for a while now, over 15 years, that's when he re-released old titles under Dean Koontz, think he has over 50 title to his name now.

Re: Bookworms: What are you reading at the moment?

It seems my last post was a little previous really, Koontz uses no fewer than 9 or maybe 10 pen names, he has written in the name of a woman Deanna Dwyer, other names include Brian Coffey, David Axton, John Hill, K. R. Dwyer, Leigh Nichols ( originally wrote Door to December under that name) Leanard Chris, Owen West and Richard Paige, all though I certainly haven't seen anything under Leigh Nichols for years now.

I actually found a site last night (Dean Koontz Books and Information)which tells you all his pen names and which books he has written under which names and if he has released them under Koontz, there are quite a few that haven't, although everything under Leigh Nichols has been released, Twilight was renamed Servants of Twilight

Picked up a s/hand novel by Lee Childs built around a fictitious character he calls 'Jack Reacher'. An infectious, macho read which will appeal to both male and female readers alike. Having hunted round the s/hand bookshops and market stalls I have collected several more volumes in the series and can't put the blessed things down. James Bond - eat your heart out!
