Grant you the guinness my dad rest his soul loved the stuff as to many other Irish men. As for spuds the Irish staple diet boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and chips:eek:

It's not so much that they love spuds, it's just that not much else would ever grow there! Spuds, cabbage and bacon.

Oh and the odd elderly sheep for the mutton for Irish stew ;)

Good luck Willow.. it's all rainbows and sunshine for you !.. i suppose if you are starvin you could always "whip off" a sheeps back leg and make some hotpot.
but .. alas,we mortal beings rely on minced beef from Asda's. a can of carrots, 98 pints of lager, and 2 oxo cubes!

I think you will find this guy had something to do with the potato but he did not INVENT the potato he brought it back from his exploring:D

Well my ancestors in Donegal managed to avoid having to do that - they lived near the coast and had to survive on such peasant food as lobsters. Amazing isn't it that we now pay inflated prices for the 'luxuries' that were considered basic subsistence. I suppose it would have seemed like a luxury though for those not fortunate enough to be able to catch any. Then there were the ones who survived by coming over here and ended up farming in Norfolk.
