I only saw it once and didn't have my camera. As this thread proves it was/is a talking point - why not have it where it was intended?

Scrap it a soon as possible, it was/is an eyesore and I personally found it a rather cheap looking object.

Define 'as soon as possible'. It's taken you 5 years to comment on it :D

It's not gone, it's somewhere in storage under the Arndale Centre.

Apparently it would cost about £20k to repair and refix it.

Not surprised, can't imagine that there are many people who have the skill to work on such a thing. But it'd be nice to repair it, and I think enough money is wasted on ornamental things that none of the community asked for in the first place so maybe it is about time they listened to us and gave us back something we actually want and has some real value to people.

I bet if they dropped it into The Clock Shop on Warner St, he'd have it fixed within the hour.

The Council didn't own the clock did they? Why should they be made to replace it using our taxes? (It could effect all sorts of things, maybe even student grants).

Don't get me wrong I would like to see it restored to where it used to be, I have fond memories of waiting with my then young children for it to do it's thing.

The council have provided a perfectly adequate clock on the bus station, use that if you can't figure out how to set the time on your mobile.:D

Yes it did look a bit cheap and tacky but in a unique manner and certainly not through the eyes of the children, they loved it.
