I am not agrophobic. I do go out sometimes.
I am fortunate to live in a lovely location where I often see other people arrive for their 'picnic days out'. I 'sit out' and stroll in the nearby fields woods and tracks.
I see no purpose to venture into a grubby built up area to meet people I don't know, or want to know:rolleyes:

I visit family and have meals out with them sometimes.
I realise that few people enjoy their own company as much as I do.
The joys of being alone are wonderful.:D
I have been to all the places I want to see and done more than I wanted to do - I have a peaceful life - don't knock it.

I am not knocking your way of life Margaret As a matter of fact I applaud it. I need people around me all the time to enjoy the banter. I get the most joy out of immediate family specially the Grand kids.

I never saw it in action but I'd be in favour of bringing it back, it sounds quite unique.

I remember the clock well from the early 1990s, and people used to wait for it to strike the hour and begin its performance.

Its a simple question of economics. For the owners of the Arndale to bring it back they would have to be satisfied that it would bring enough extra visitors to the centre to justify them charging a premium on the rents to shopkeepers to pay for the running costs.

Its hard to see that happening in the current climate. They have enough problems letting the shops at current rent levels.

However, the Council has budgets to be spent on trying to regenerate the town centre, which have previously been spent on flash mobs and dodgy celebrity cooks.

Maybe it could do worse than spending some of that money on bringing back the clock?

There you go again, wanting to spend money on something permanent.

What the public seem to want are flash-in-the-pan ideas.

May God strike me down if I be telling a lie.....
