'A spokesperson from United Utilities said: "Residents who were without water for a considerable period as a result of the recent water burst in Hyndburn will receive compensation from United Utilities. We will be writing to those customers in the coming days.'

If you were affected this week, and they don't write to you within 'the coming days', contact them.

'According to the water giant’s website customers can expect to receive pay-outs after 12 hours without water. The firm promises to pay £25 plus another £10 for every additional 12 hour period that a customer is left without water.'

Thats only if you are on their books as one of those who made a complaint, I did and made sure they had the correct address. Thats may be why they keep quoting only 150 or so were without water.
Best check that your Ma is on the list.

I don't think she phoned up but I am sure she will do...anyway they know which areas were without water and for how long. Every household in those areas should be compensated. It isn't like there is a choice of water company.

Maybe, but like every other organisation, if they can dodge paying they will do, and if some one on your patch had a trickle of water, then you won't be on the list, when I complained again on the 2nd day, they delivered 6 bottles of water, rang them again, told them, we still had no water & I had shared my bottled water with neighbours, two old ladies, one is near blind, and the other was unable to take her medication without water. Got them some more water in empty pop bottles, and gave them the number to ring and complain.

Ma didn't ring and complain because she knew they would be inundated with people ringing up.......But she was without water all of wednesday and until teatime on thursday.
I took several two litre drink bottles up there for her to use.
No-on on the hill had any water.......they were all in the same boat...but not floating :D
I will get her to give them a call tomorrow...or I may just do it myself and e-mail them as well.

Just had a letter from United Utlities, saying I'm going to get £45.00 compensation.

If you were without water when we had the recent burst, and you don't hear from them in the next few days, do contact them.

Are they going to send you a cheque or take it off the next bill?

Oddly it said they were sending cheques out, or adding it as a credit off the next bill.

They didn't ask for a preference, and the way the letter was worded, they don't want to know.

It didn't say to contact them, and tell them which method you prefer. Just that it'll happen shortly.

I suppose if you pay be direct debit, your account gets credited; if not, then it's a cheque.

Just rcvd my letter today, not addressed personally to me, just to my address saying I'll get the standard £45 payment. So looks like even if you didn't ring & complain you'll get a refund. Ok by me as mine didn't go off either.

My letter says we will get £10 to cover the cost of any bottled water we bought.
