Re: Water Main Burst

Without wishing to sound too suspicious, do you think this could be a clever ruse by United Utilities?

They have ways and means of diverting other pipes into the area. They only have enough water for half the town at the moment because of the burst pipe. So, initially they diverted water to about half the houses (some people's water supply was back on within 4hours of it going off yesterday). Then, to avoid any payments (it has to be off for 48 hours before you can start claiming) they have changed the water diversions so that the other houses now have it. Thereby meaning that no one is able to claim.

Just me thinking aloud.

I have a pipe but no water in the shop, they class that as receiving water, you should be paying double for drips :D

I don't think you are far wrong on that one.

Their excuse, of course, is that they are trying to ration the water, rather than allow all to get some some of the time rather than some all of the time and others to get nowt.

The good thing about Facebook and Twitter is that they document how people around the area have been struggling all day.

That's another one of their little, lets call them 'fibs', is that very few houses have been affected. Hmmm, well most people have found out that the situation is widespread and so haven't added to United Utilities workload by ringing them because they can find out the situation via online methods. Just because we haven't rung doesn't mean we haven't been without water.

Anyway, what's the odds that this will make the main news on ITV/BBC tonight?

Given that today is the second or third hottest day of the year, I would have thought it would be rather newsworthy that the best part of a borough of 80,000 people has now been without water for almost two days.

I can guarantee this - if it had been the City of Westminster, we would now have round the clock news coverage of the disaster engulfing the City, with people being interviewed in the streets, councillors being questioned, water managers before the cameras. What have we got so far? Nothing! Maybe a 4 minute slot on tonight's regional news.

May be it's a new Government idea to deprive us of water (watch this, gas and electric shortages next) so that we all move out. Thus meaning that we don't actually need an MP after all and they can fulfill their plans to reduce the number of MPs.

My work has been closed since yesterday lunchtime and will be tomorrow if the water isn't back on, there's no problem here up Manchester Road but my daughter up Dill Hall Lane and my son in Oswaldtwistle have had no water at all. It's a problem particularly for my son and his wife who have a four week old baby. My daughter was only able to buy sparkling water yesterday (although she did manage to get two bottles of Iron Brew and a couple of bottles of wine as well to keep her going she told me)!
As other people have said, if anyone needs water, please contact me. United Utilities should have been going out street by street with water, what about the elderly, disabled and people without transport who can't get to the places where the water is being doled out and have nobody to help?
