Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???
Well it seems Wetherspoons are opening in Accrington although in true Telegrapgh style they have totally screwed the story up

Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???
As usual, the Telegraph has made a dogs breakfast of this bit of news.
I'm not sure that the economic climate in Accrington will support a Costa Coffee outlet........will wait and see. Wetherspoons, well...that just might make a good go of it. |
Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???
Your man PB has stated that he's sure everybody will be happy about it, shoppers & traders, really Costa Coffee vs .......... Don't think Sonny Jim will be over enthusiastic, hole, shovel, crack on !

The end result, of course, will be a couple more traditional pubs closing round Accy. Of course, I won't mind if one of those establishments is the Bee’s Knees (or whatever its title is these days) but my guess is the closures will be among those just outside the town centre. That someone wishes to swap a proper pub for a ghastly drinking emporium is beyond me; I will certainly not be setting foot in the place – you’d sooner catch me in a Mac’s or a KFC than a Wetherspoons. In fact, there’s very little difference – the latter is no more than a licensed variation on the former and the only debate is on the quality of the pigswill that is laughingly sold as food fit for human consumption in all of these outlets. Still, I suppose if it attracts the local riff-raff and keeps them out of respectable boozers then some good may come of it. |

This is going to come as a bit of a shock.........I agree with you. My point was that Costa Coffee is (relatively) expensive(when you can get your coffee and a bacon buttie for £1.99 at Greggs), whilst Wetherspoons places cater for those who have not got bottomless pockets...hence the comment that they might do alright. |
Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???
was in a weatherspoons on saturday in grangemouth .. the earl of zetland with spugs ... cost for 2 main meals with assorted side dishes and 2 drinks .. many of which would interest you bitter drinkers theyre doing a beer festival at the minute thats running till 10th april
Our Ales From Acorn 1887( God Created Tangerine) to Big City Jamaica Stout | Wetherspoon's, No1 For Real Ale anyway it cost us £18.54 for our tea ... and there was plenty .... and it was good .. |
Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???
We need an eating establishment in accrington that I can go in with my sister and children, you can't go in the calder, the lancashire tea rooms is a rip off, 1.60 for a can of pop! There is hardly anywhere to eat decent food where there are facilities and space for little ones, and is rather drink dirty dish water than a greggs coffee! Sorry Margaret! Decaf vanilla latte for me please!

Re: Weatherspoons Pub coming to Accy???

My point was that there are places where people can get a hot drink at a cheaper price....and if it is all you can afford then that is what you will buy. I don't drink much coffee.(if I have to have coffee, then I choose instant.....hate the bitter taste of ground stuff) I am a tea person, but proper leaf tea, not tea bags.........tell me who serves that in Accrington? |
