The simple answer is we don't.

But the more evidence that is presented about their daft expensive pipe dreams, and their churlish refusal to work with other councillors, and by the dismissive ways we've heard they reflect questions from Joe Bloggs at public meetings, makes me believe it's worth a punt...because they couldn't do much worse.

Thats why I would probably vote Labour in local elections following what I have read on here...I do think it's worth a punt.
Going back to the original thread....I don't think it is wrong to do a secret search on the opposition, I have done it many times before commiting to contracts and the like....I dont think there is a difference here.
You note I said local elections....The National elections are a different matter.........Todays headlines on the subject of expenses is beyond belief and hopefully will be addressed.

Questions: Are there any independent councillors? Are there any councillors from parties other than Labour or Conservative? If a candidate from, say, The Green Party ran ... I mean a really credible candidate ... what would that person's chances of election be? And, in general, do people vote for the candidate or the party that a candidate represents? And now, because the blizzard was only an hour long bout of lake effect snow, I'm off to shovel:mad:

Oh, and if anyone attending the next council meeting wishes to borrow my shovel, feel free ... it works not only for snow, but also for BS.:theband:

That's exactly how I vote.

I try to decide who is the best possible candidate for whatever election is being voted for, and that means I haven't always voted for the same particular political party.

I vote for who I think will do the best job.

There are Independent councillors on Hyndburn Council.

You can see the party breakdown on the link below.

nothing at all is clear n obvious in the internet world, ya would be amazed at some impressions ya get on here,or any site, then ya got to know people in the real world, believe me, i made that mistake at first.:);) yer own lad is a prime example of what i'm saying.

I've posted earlier in the thread when asked, that though there is much that this government has done that I strongly disagree with, if a General Election was called for Thursday I'd vote for Greg Pope to continue being M.P. for Hyndburn.

It is a balance, weighing person against party, but at this moment in time Greg Pope would secure my particular vote. He's proved himself to be an excellent Member of Parliament. A man with strongly held principles, and someone not afraid to rebel and stand up to the Party Whip, and who's fought to the best of his ability for the people of Hyndburn.

Peter Britcliffe, the leader whose party you say you wouldn't vote for here, has twice stood against him, unsuccessfully.

Sadly for the local Conservative party that's the quality of candidate they field.
