Smoke and Mirrors. Quite simply the public aren't fooled anyway.

When the auditor says that Hyndburn is performing very poorly like it said when your motley crew had their hands on power, for one year only, then I'll start to worry, until then you can rant all you want about ear-say, he said she said means nothing to anybody especially the people who keep telling you and your tribe to get St***ed at the ballot box

Maybe this comes a shock to you (please note the sarcasm), but I'm no politician. I've tried to understand and participate in political discussions in the past and only discovered how naive my views are, and just how inept I am at anything resembling Question Time.
I have no angle Mr Jones. I can barely deal with 180° lines in my everyday life. I'm not red or blue or yellow or green (in fact I was born colour-blind, I'll spin you a few humourous yarns on that if you're lucky).
I don't care about you or your party or your politics. Even though I consider AndrewB a friend, he knows full well that I'll challenge him publicly about anything I disagree with. Everything I have posted in this thread is therefore completely and categorically objective.

Still think I'm targetting you? Look. I have no opinion on the council tax issues that have arose in this thread because I don't understand them properly. I have no opinion on the allowances issues for the same reason. The only thing that I felt I wanted to comment on was the oft' ridiculous content of posts by politicians/councillors. You just happened to be the main culprit in my eyes.

I have found that part of growing up is knowing when not to throw yourself head first into something you know nothing or little about. Think of that notion, and then read post number one. Perhaps you'll realise why I feel compelled to highlight the high population of farce in your posts.

I'm not using it as a stick to beat anyone with. I was just publishing on here the information that Andrew requested from the Council under the FOI act. I'm lucky, my Mum and Dad live just up the road from me so I don't need to claim for my daughter to be looked after because she goes to her Grandparents, last year I wasn't entitled to a mobile phone as only the deputy leader and leader of the opposition are entitled (I qualify for that this year but don't claim it as I already have a contract phone and it would cost me a fortune to get out of the 18 month contract), I didn't go to any conferences as I really do believe that you should only attend the conferences that will benefit your role on the Council and enhance your skills to do your job. I hope this explains more fully the comments I made last night, I wasn't being smug AT ALL, just answering the exact question that Andrew asked of me and all other councillors

Of course it explains things Clare in as much as you had none to claim literally, so wasn't much point in mentioning it was there ?

Would have helped if you had mentioned this in the first place, just came across as if you were trying to score brownie points. You are still saying though "if you need the money and are entitled to claim it as an expense then good on you"

As per Garinda's comment on people's right 'not' to claim them, I disagree. Employees in the past have fought for these, and should be used by everyone .. think any Employer would consider you stupid if you didn't anyway. I know if I had had a colleague who did not claim for mileage allowance when using their car on company business, would have been considered as some sort of toadying git (language moderated here :D), in a councillors case maybe extra votes.

How many Council auditor's reports have you actually read?

Still think it's perfectly acceptable not to make a claim, if you don't want to. It's a choice.

Clare mentioned she is lucky that her children are looked after by her parents. Should she put them in a nursery instead, and submit a childcare alowance, just because she can? Sounds daft to me.

Also if you were staying away overnight on business, and weren't hungry and just wanted to have a bath and hit the hay, should you call room service and order something just because you can? I certainly never did that, nor would I.

Allowances are there to make sure no one is out of pocket.

It's personal choice if you want to use them.

I'm not talking about having to use them Garinda and order a meal because you can

Just if you have had to use the expenses paid facility, then you should claim as opposed to not putting in a claim when you have had a meal, etc.

Think we are at cross purposes here.
