I am just soooo envious of those kingfisher shots.
The times I have walked down there and never seen one.....and I have looked.
In fact I get worried that someone will think I am going to end it all.....I spend so much time looking into the water.
I suppose much photography is about being in the right place at the right time...oh yeah, and having your camera in your pocket helps too.

Re: Today in pictures

I`ve been seeing so many recently, on the way down I saw one under the M65 bridge (too quick for me to get a pic though). Here I was sat on the corner of the river not far round from the waterfalls. I`ve sat there a few times because the fish jump out of the water, that`s what I was trying to get a pic of. I looked up and saw some bird movement. Only got these 3 pics but quite chuffed to get one splashing in the water, then with the fish in its mouth.:ban:

Watch this video, get to know the noise they make, you`ll here them when you`re down there looking for them, unfortunately, that probably means you`ve scared them off.

If you do hear them Margaret, have a look about a couple of feet above the water, flying off to hide.

That's how I've always seen them - a flash of turquoise as they fly away above the water. It's a heart-stopping moment when you see them! :)

OK Jason......see what you think of these then.
1) early on the candles were lit for the ITN cameras....few folk about good opportunity grabbed with both hands.
2) Pictures of 600 lads that were lost...again kindly lit by the ITN newsman.
3) The Accrington Pipe Band who played moving music until 10.30. It gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat the size of Gibraltar.
4) Young and Old...side by side playing their tribute to the fallen.
5) My candle....lit for the memory of those lost in all conflicts....it makes me unreasonably sad to think about their loss.
(OK perhaps it isn't unreasonable to be sad for those lost in battle)
6) some perspective of the attendance.......there were people there from all generations...the very young to the very old. All made the effort to be there with their candles and their thoughts.
'Lest we forget'........'At the going down of the sun we will remember them'

Fantastic Capture Margaret.

Re: Today in pictures

There were a lot of shots that were too poor to use.
I took my Limix and a spare battery......the battery in the camera was low and the spare I took along with me was not charged...don't ask me how that happened....so most of these pics were shot with the Fuji EXR 600.
I should have taken the monopod....you need a steady hand for low light shots don't you?
