George Harrison and Accrington

Good afternoon, I chose this thread because it appears to get the most traffic!

I am looking for a Reader's Digest article. It was probably written in the 1980s or 1990s, and it was by George...

The Beatles

Did they ever perform in Accrington?

I remember an article from Reader's Digest, maybe it was an article about George, and there were quotes - one in particular, not quoted exactly : "We had...

Re: Robinson's Fever Cure

Also, Owbridges Cough Mixture, but the name is unfamiliar to me.

Re: Robinson's Fever Cure

Still wondering about this, and I stumbled across the name "Roberts Lobeline" (tastes good!"). But the name doesn't Google. Have you heard of it?

Eddie Paynter

Perhaps the most famous of his Test appearances came against Australia, on the "Bodyline tour" of 1932/33. At Brisbane, Paynter was taken to hospital suffering from tonsillitis, yet with England in...

Re: Knight's Tripe Shop, Clayton?

Thanks for your reply, Margaret. We talked in here about the location of the tripe shop years ago. I went by the nick of "Mack" then, and the thread is in "Lost Friends and Family" - "Information...

Re: Knight's Tripe Shop, Clayton?

I never know where to put these things, there are so many categories, but I have mentioned my great grandma's tripe shop in Clayton several times. It was located at 158 Whalley Road, and the Star...

Spirit of Ipecac makes you throw up (calls for 'Ralph').

Well, we never did find anything definitive about Robinson's, but thanks to you all for your ideas and comments.

Brown Windsor Soup

"Brown Windsor Soup"

Just realized that you might like to read the research we did, circa 2014, about Brown Windsor Soup. "It is the soup that built the Empire" - except that there is no real...

Re: Robinson's Fever Cure

The Robinson's, or whatever, was given to us circa 1950. I remember it because I loved the flavor, so I kind of doubt it was the nasty "fever cure". We emigrated to the U.S. in the mid-1950s, and I...

Re: Robinson's Fever Cure

I don't know about the UK's choices, but I don't think Robitussin comes with the "Jaegermeister" flavor. Vick's formula 44 does, but that came into existence in the U.S. in the 1960s or 1970s.

Re: Robinson's Fever Cure

We think that Mum had two bottles. One was a bottle of nasty-tasting stuff, and that may have been the "fever cure", but it wasn't "Robinson's". If I do a search on "Robinson's (cough or cold), all...

Robinson's Fever Cure

"Robinson's Fever Cure"

Circa 1950, my mother used to give me and my sister a dark syrupy liquid from a bottle when we were ill with a cold. I think this was the name, but I am not positive.

I have been devastated and in tears watching the news over the past few days. Very traumatic. Thoughts and prayers. God bless us all.

I was recently reminded of this; it is a sketch starring Freddie Frinton as the butler, and several different actresses have played the dowager, but the most famous was May Warden. The comedy sketch...
