Its good news that they are going to demolish the palladium in oswaldtwistle, it has been a blot on the landscape for such a long time.I hope they put the site to good use, however I can see it becoming another car park for ossy mills. As long as it is brightened up it will be alot nicer than the sorry state its in now.

Could anyone explain why it is only now that formal planning permission for the revamp of the Market Hall has only now been applied for? I can understand the part concerning the exposure and reinstatement of the flagstones, but what about the rest of the stuff. A notice was placed in last week's Observer and there is a notice on HBC's planning site - but I would have assumed that this should have been placed a year or so ago, particularly in relation to stall fitting. Has HBC cocked up and are they now applying for planning permission on a listed building in retrospect?

Sorry, can't help, but Cllr. Britcliffe mentioned the Market Hall revamp in his Observer column.

He said it was Queen Anne on the outside, and Mary-Ann on the inside.

Well it made me laugh, anyway.

:D

What i can't fathom, whilst its looking ok in the revamped market hall, why did they not have moving stairs up at one end n down at the other end? ok theres a lift, which is very small about 4 people at a guess, many dont like small lifts n many aint mobile enough to walk up n down the stairs, or will not wi bags of shopping. its gonna be a damned hard slog fer businesses up yon to make a do IMHO, which would be a shame cos the improvements are nice.

Presume you mean this Tealeaf ... not unusual for them to apply for internal fittings later as things shape up and amendments have to be made. Feel sure has been passed.

Re: Planning Applications

Which also reminds me...I recall from about two years ago that planning permission had been granted for the old Oak Tree pub on the Church/Accy border to be converted into Solicitors Offices...it is now an off-license...Booze R Uz or something similar. How the hell did this happen?
