'sorry you're leaving' to all the customers who don't want to darken the market halls doorstep ever again :D

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
On our sojourns into East Lancs, the Land of Accy featured prominently & as tourists we did the touristy bits. The Market Hall featured & I was saddened to see how empty & bare it all looked, it appears the traders are having a tough old time of it & forcing their hand can only make it harder for them to earn a crust.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
I've just had a belter of a letter in my correspondence from HBC.
A gentleman from Burnley has written to me about my letter in the Lancashire Telegraph and enclosed copies of emails he has had from the council regarding opening his curry stall in the refurbished Market Hall. Cllr Haworth didn't bother to reply directly but one of the officers handled the grim duty of telling Mr Thomson that there is no need for any more stalls selling out hot food and that the electrical system might not take the power upload of his food heaters in any case. I have just spoken to Mr Thomson and wished him well with other markets but does anyone else wonder whether Cllrs Britcliffe and Haworth might possibly not be the best people in charge? What a bloody farce. National recognition for curry entrepreneur - Todmorden News |
Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
I think 'Curried Away' is on the outdoor market in Toddy, not the indoor one. The last thing Accy Market Hall needs is something like this stinking the place out (and that goes for any fast food joint, be it Curry, Burgers, Kebabs or Pizzas).

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
He's just told me that he'd happily go on the outdoor market but Marlene Haworth didn't even bother to reply to his last e-mail.
Not exactly filling me with confidence that they're encouraging new traders to full effect.... |

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
The traders were given a letter yesterday informing them of the start date of 6 day trading. Since full council has been cancelled this evening there will be no opportunity now to change this, it is being rammed through by Britcliffe's cabinet.
The final insult to the market traders is a sentence informing them that anyone can pitch an outdoor stall for just £2.50 per day. I'm sure that's gone down very well with the stallholder who has just seen rent go past the £22k per annum mark. |

'Amyl nitrate is stronger than butyl nitrate. In the UK, butyl is used more than amyl. The drug was initially prescribed as medication for heart conditions such as angina, but is rarely used for this purpose nowadays.'
Poppers - Thesite.org 'In the United Kingdom, poppers are widely available and frequently (legally[51]) sold in gay clubs/bars, sex shops, drug paraphernalia head shops, over the Internet and on markets' Poppers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As they are, in Accrington's Market Hall. Openly, and as 'poppers', and to youngsters, as I witnessed this afternoon. Perhaps the cabinet member for markets on H.B.C., Cllr. Marlene Haworth would find her time more usefully spent if she knew what she was allowing to be sold in Accrington's historic Market Hall. Rather than ride rough shod over the majority of the market traders' wishes, and go against over a century's worth of tradition, and force the traders to open, and work a six day week. |

In a few months when it's empty there will be nothing dodgy being sold at all. Problem solved. |
Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
...then again, drugs like poppers, and other drugs paraphernalia, are perhaps the arty, farty stalls that they wished to see, and which would increase the foot fall.
Though druggies generally shuffle, rather than make an actual footstep. |
