Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
Oh dear, oh dear.
This is very definitely at odds with what Cllr Clare Pritchard and myself have been told by Cllr Haworth. She said she has them queueing up to get a stall in the Market Hall so why are we wasting advertising money on this? It also strikes me a rather odd that we are paying for Quarterbridge as project managers (something which I have still not had the costings through for) and yet HBC are helping them to organise the things that they are being paid to do and indeed should have done months ago. Time for a few more questions to be raised with the Portfolio holder, I think. |

I have a question for you Ken.
Is there disabled access to the upstairs? |

In fairness on that point, there was only so much they could do as large parts of the building cannot be altered too far. |
Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
the only problem with Andy Morris is, he is says one thing and does another ,maybe he is a councillor where he lives in Royal Barkshire! The thing is even he has said wednesdays 6 days trading would not work , not that he would ever admit it to anyone , but I know what he said first hand. It's time Quaterbridge were pulled out and the money it must be costing to keep them could be used to better means within the market and towns. I wiah the traders had that much time and money to faf about ! Thers goes my blood pressur up again ! :)

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
Ken is quite correct, disabled access is via the lift . It is just at the side of the waste of money plaque on the right hand side , as you come in from Blackburn Road. Near the Cafes. The Balconys is a little tight on the right as you look from the clock, it is only just a fit ! Do visit as it is a lovely if you have not been up before

According to tomorrow's Obserever , traders are threatening a mass exodus of the market hall over six-day trading .

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
Also Cllr Haworth is teaching her grandmother to suck eggs .
She tells the businesses to use the market hall's new Enterprise Hub . She says : " That is what they are there for , to give advice to the small one-man business . If they will just go that extra mile I am sure they will succeed . The only way to help develop the economy in Accrington and the country is for businesses to expand , take people off the unemployment lists and try new things ". Clearly her eggs come from cloud-cuckoo-land . |

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
I hope they follow through with their threats.......it would leave the council with runny yolk all over their daft faces.
Why don't they reduce the rents of the stalls for the three month trial period of six day trading...this would lift some of the financial burden from the stall holders(though it would still cost them in their own personal free time)....it would give the stall holders the sense that there was a little bit of compromise. I can see the Market hall being a permanent venue for music and arty farty things the way things are going....and that won't bring the money in. |
