Been back in today as the daughter wanted a nosey at the place, still very busy, food correct this time and had a look at beer garden, really well done, just needs the sunshine!

Re: Wetherspoons
The garden's so nicely done, it might encourage people to take up smoking.

Re: Wetherspoons
What about making it into a 'Garden of Rest'?

Re: Wetherspoons
Finally got in there today for a post-match drink. Very impressed - a huge improvement on the Regency...and they even have a Stanley-themed beer, Moorhouse's "Who Are They?" (4.8 %ABV)...very palatable. Definitely my regular port of call at 5.15 on Saturdays from now on! :)

Re: Wetherspoons
Went into the Commercial for a post-match pint yesterday. Somewhat disappointed to discover that "Who Are They?" was off but worse was to come. Had a close-up shufty at the Stanley display for the first time - a nice atmospheric picture of a 1959 match at Peel Park accompanied by a potted history of the club. All OK until I came to the last sentence which read roughly along these lines - the town is best known for its football club more than 30 years after its inglorious departure from the league...and that was it! Nothing about its glorious revival and rise up the leagues and its even more glorious return to the football league. You'd think the town had no football club reading that.
I'm with Tealeaf - I'm going nowhere near the Commercial while this appalling distortion of history is allowed to remain on public display. It's back to the Broadway for me! |
