Today in Pictures, today was a day when you couldn't avoid moist moments.

1. Hard to spot, but the Orchids are flowering.
2. Will it stop fine ?
3. They are all over the place.
4. See, I told you.
5. Looking down the site.
6. The Teasel crop from last year.
7. Well there had to be one.
8. I am not sure what the ants are doing !
9. Hold my coat, ...wahoooooooooooooooo..........oops........aw aw aw, nettles.
10. One more on the way out, my feet are wet, and I have more than a moist gusset, so its home for a change of clothing.

And with that it was time to leave Huncoat Colliery site.

Thanks for the picture of the top of the coppice, it's a thing I don't think I will ever see unless, of course, a 4X4 will go up there.

The path(not the one that goes up the back) isn't as steep as going straight up

Have you been to Rome before Dianne? Did you go into St Peter's?

The only 36 around here just now is not the temperature but the windspeed in MPH outside my window.

I was last in Rome mid-September 1986, Sue! It was really hot then too but I don't remember there being quite as many tourists - lots of Americans and Japanese around this time. I went into the Vatican Museums and the Basilica back then but this time just went in the Basilica as the security checks meant long queues -over 3 hrs to get in the Museum -about 30 mins to get in the church...it was worth it to see it again though. Some photos of St. Peter's follow.
1 The Pope's view
2 Carved doorway
3 The highly decorated nave
4 Heaving with tourists -folk with I-pads are a real pain!
5 Michelangelo Buonarotti's sculpture "La Pietà" - dated 1497. (Now kept behind glass).
6 Stone font
7 Cherub
8 Bronze with angel (my 2nd favourite thing)
9 Me and my guardian angel (my 1st favourite thing)
10 A bit of the Vatican's gold!

After this in the afternoon I visited Castel Sant'Angelo and the Colloseum/Foro Romano -photos to follow!

Today we went to Formby to the Squirrel Reserve then on to the sand dunes

Nos 1-5 are of the squirrels
Nos 6-9 are unusual sculptures in the sand dunes .Are they made with the wind? Can any member enlighten me.
No 10 is Maxwell taking a breather

The composition of Formby beach ie sand, silt and sediment, is responsible for these structures which will be washed away by the next tide. Preserved prehistoric footprints have been found by those who know what they are looking for but again they are ephemeral.

The red squirrel is a rare sight, I have only seen one. The sand sculptures are an interesting capture.

Today in Pictures, an oft walked walk, but different every time.

1. Now is the time to spot Orchids, this is the common spotted.
2. Time to leave the footpath.
3. A towering place for a brew and a moment to reflect.
4. Looking over to Clitheroe.
5. I have paused here before.
6.. The highest point of the site.
7. The hill in the distance is Hameldon Hill.
8. Oh look, Moo Cows, as the saying goes, when a cow sits down. it's having a rest, or is that just me.
9. Its the start of the Fungi season.
10. Its very busy over there, driving bats around on electric carts, its a bit like rush hour.

That concludes todays walk around Spring Wood.

Over the boundary at Whalley, on the right as you get to the traffic lights where you turn left to go down into the town.

Unfortunately I didn't go there this time Cashy -hope that doesn't mean it was my last trip to Rome :D

This link has a nice selection of photos: http://www.aviewoncities.com/gallery/rome/trevi.htm

Last time I was there I saw someone try to snatch a ladies handbag -she held on tight and in the end he gave up with a shrug and walked off into the crowd -no-one did anything to stop him!
