Southport's Gary Roberts played for Port Vale against us three or four times in 2010 and 2011 and scored in our 4-1 defeat at Vale Park in August 2011.

Thought it would have been an odd move for 'our Gary', knew he'd been told by Pompey he was free to find another club though & Southport's close to home so wouldn't have been beyond the realms of possibility

Was at the game last night. You cant fault Matty ever for heart and enthusiasm and of course got his goal - but bear no bones about it this is a tough step up for him.
He did ok - not great not poor.

People need to be careful of what is expected.
Some on here just before the move were describing him as a ready made Championship player. He isn't.

To have a chance at that level, you need technique, good attitude, balance and speed.
I expect him to improve in all these areas in the next 12 months, although he already has a fantastic attitude

Whilst I would generally agree with that statement. I did notice Matty has a flaw or two in his temperament. I was one who thought he could make that step up but in doing that I did qualify that by saying Barnsley might not be the best club for him to progress at in the championship, No disrespect to Barnsley in any way. I did think a more established Championship club could have nurtured his skills and all round game. Nobody can doubt his commitment and bravery, He needs his skills honing and a little more more general training in reading the game. He will be a great championship player over the next two seasons. Good luck to him.

I'm not sure what you have against Craig Lindfield but I reckon he served us well, especially when he moved to full back.
He wasn't flamboyant - just a solid performer who always gave his best. He does not deserve your sarcasm.

RR ! ... I once heard Craig described by someone as ' a real trier '... not too complimentary I suppose ?, yet in my opinion if a Manager happens to have a team made up of 11' real triers' then I reckon he's half way to being a lucky man !.
Glad to see that he's still involved in the game... and I bet he's still' trying ' his best to be, in his own mind, the greatest Soccer player that ever was !.

Like you I expect, I'm certain that I have seen many worse than Craig Linfield wearing the Stanley Red !.

answer to yonman and revived red. we all have opinions on players but for me lindfield was one of the worst i,ve seen since 2009 that played regularly for the side. never knew what he gave the side and would never get a look in with our current side. some have a go at clarke and mcconville on here but it shows how far we have come since lindfield left us.
