Re: Volcanic ash cloud on its way
You know when Lord Adonis is lying, it's when he opens his mouth.
Truth is no one seems to really know what is and is not safe. The airlines don't want to make the decision in case they are wrong and get sued, same for the aircraft manufacturers so it is down to governments to sort it out. I just hope that it is the right decision and that the cloud has now dispersed enough for it to be safe for air travel. The last thing we need is a aircraft making a no engine landing. I for one will be revising the Boeing 737 'Loss of Thrust on Both Engines' checklist before I head back to the sun this weekend, hoping I will not need it. Be safe everyone. BG |
Re: Volcanic ash cloud on its way
Disagree about it being governments decision boeing guy, presume most of em know next to sod all about science n air safety etc etc, they can only go off people who are much more knowledgeable in that field.

Fair point Cashy, maybe I should have said Civil Servants, NATS (National Air Traffic Services), The CAA (Campaign Against Aviation, sorry Civil Aviation Authority) and the MET office.
Not to mention the 26 planes BA sent asking for clearance to land. Re: Volcanic ash cloud on its way
There was a docu-drama thing on Channel 5 last night about a similar thing in 1982.
I missed the ending but at least I now know what St Elmo's Fire is! |
