Well, I've been in tears three times today and I get the feeling I'm not going to be sleeping much better again. The situation in China (unfortunately my flight didn't cost less than £99 as lovely as that would be) is that we basically have no idea whatsoever when we could possibly fly but with the backlog of people we have been quoted MAY for a flight. We have been given no other advice with regards to visas, accommodation, food etc and I'm in Shanghai, a city I've not actually been staying in so I do not know my way around and I have no mobile phone here to be contacted.

I'm currently staying in a £50 a night hotel because I was ripped off yesterday and hassled by two Chinese men all evening so I'm playing it safe tonight, but tomorrow I have an hour taxi ride to a hostel that I know is safe to be in, so at least I can be accommodated for less than £10.

On the bright side, I definitely have a few days in Shanghai at least to explore the city. It is eating into my student loan though so I need to live as cheaply as possible, but apparently my insurance company WILL cover this if I prove that I was here for my flight when it was meant to go and that I HAVE been delayed for more than 12 hours, which I inevitably will be.

I've only been abroad once before. Trust a volcano to erupt the one time I go somewhere alone that happens to be halfway across the world...

Same here. It is just quite stressful to know that I will already be missing a deadline tomorrow, though I have been told now that I don't have to post, yes post my essay, and can actually just email it.

I have a deadline for in two weeks which I cannot miss, plus exams which begin early May. I'm hoping that the speculations over flight dates is just leaving room for lots of flexibility and that actually flights will be running again ASAP. I don't really know what else I can do.

Stressed out!

LATEST NEWS!
it's been reported that whist all other airlines are grounded for an indeterminate time, SwissAir, in conjunction with the Swiss Euthanasia Clinic, are offering free one way tickets to the Icelandic Volcano epicentre.
It's expected that President Magabe will pilot the plane and the general public are asked to nominate his co-pilot and their 5 cabin crew.
As an extra incentive Chef Blumenthal is preparing char grilled termite en croute, amongst other delicacies, for the outward journey.
The public are asked to be sensible about their very important choices.

I remember Arthur Ashe telling the world that it was god that got him the Wimbledon final so I suppose Ryan Air will do the same in order to charge more?
plenty other athletes have laid the same claim -- this past year - Serena!!! to me - a bit of an unfair advantage if you have a direct line to Jesus!! -
regards

Not a very nice position to be in blazey especially for a young lady on her own, hope everything goes alright for you and that you are able to get a flight home ASAP, in the mean time keep safe and look after yourself
