Accrington Web - Today in pictures

Its not easy, but you will find they are not as fluttery if they are stuffed with nectar, so go for the plants that they go for, thistles,or any compound flower that consists of a lot of small flowers within the main flower. This way they have a lot to eat in a small area.

The problem with the goldfinches in my garden Max - they're easy to spot in the trees from the upstairs windows but they all disappear when I'm at ground level!

No, we have enough seed heads on the plants in the garden and the cemetery behind to keep them happy and I prefer to see them on the plants. We do have seeders but don't think I've ever seen a goldfinch on one.

probably the most common bird in my garden but not managed to snap one yet!

No 6 gosh I think the soft furnishings in that room would give me a headache - but I do like your little patio!

No 7 Those two pigeons really do look as though they were conversing!

I was going to say Goldfinch as soon as I saw it but you beat me to it ;) they are quite common were I am in centre of city - sometimes sing in the gardens round here.

Another trip to Lancaster today so lots of pics to post...

By the canal first

1 Base of horse chestnut trunk
2 Trunk close up
3 Lichen on towpath wall
4 Buddleia by canal
5 Don't know what this boat was dischargng but it made some pretty patterns in the water
6 You have to be - to buy a canal boat
7 Nice name - make haste slowly
8 I like this bridge - reminds me of the Grand Canal in Venice
9 Cobbles and a place to sit and relax - if you don't mind other people's rubbish
10 Valerian growing on the A6 bridge

It's more of a basin, and there are two very nice pubs...

It was busier today than my last pics two weeks ago, must be more people on holidays. You tend to get mainly private boats on this canal as it doesn't really go anywhere except Preston unless you want to cross the Ribble. Also it has no locks. When we lived in the midlands there were loads of hire company boats. We once won a long weekend trip and managed to hit a bridge and another boat during that time. The company who had donated the holiday were not best pleased...

Glad you like the pigeon on nest shot. I can identify most British birds but couldn't describe some of them as I just know what they look like, without being able to describe all the details!

Yes I do know what you mean... but I'm afraid most birdsong defeats me...

Goldfnches are just about the most colourful of birds... hard to miss and very pretty - as is their song - I do know that one!
