No, have tried to look it up, but have not been able to come close to getting a name. It is a large fungi, the size of a saucer, will get back on the trail later.

OK - been through my mushroom book and I think it's Russula nigricans.
Search that on Google images and you get pics from all over Europe...

I think you have it nailed there, the pictures are exactly what was there, i'd give you some "k" but I have to spread it around first ( will make a note )

Thanks Dave, glad we cracked that one... so it's not going to be Robertus davidii as Frank would like it after all!

Today in Pictures, when its a rubbish landscape day its usually a good macro day.

1. Devils-Bit scabious.
2. Meadow Thistle with a nettle bug.
3. Yarrow.
4. Not sure what this is a seed head of yet, but it looked photogenic.
5. Meadow Brown Butterfly.
6. Slug.
7. Devils-Bit Scabious with an upside down hover fly.
8. Hover fly the right way up.
9. Its a bath when we get back.
10. Its a frog-hopper.

thanks for the "we" but you did all the leg work, it was the mature stage that wasn't depicted in any of my reference sites. That made it impossible to settle on any particular type.

As Frank says, I will still name the fungus, I am going to call it Douglas.

3 & 4 .. from the train .. through a smoked glass window
5 & 8 .. on fishergate preston
6 .. outside the harris museum
7... preston town hall wi the flowers .. the pink G's are for Preston Guild 2012
9 & 10 .. outside preston train station

In that case I love parched peas, I get mine from the tripe stall on the market (dried) and make my own
