Strange how few people there were around at 11 o'clock in the morning -mind you it was mid-week in April... |

Today I went to the hosp but they wouldn't let me have my next chemo session as my blood count wasn't right. So we went for a drive to Grange over Sands instead (Richard was supposed to be at work but it was a lovely bright and breezy day so I persuaded him...)
These first ten pics don't even get us to Grange, courtesy of a mid morning fuel stop near Carnforth... 1 Leaving home on a bright day with blue sky 2 Fuel stop for tea and bacon butties in a layby near Carnforth 3 Willow herb on the layby verge 4 The canal at the layby 5 Moorhen family wth three chicks 6 Unfortunately the chicks resemble nothing more than black blobs 7 Canal bridge - there was a heron on the towpath the other side of the bridge but it flew away before I could get a shot 8 Flowers on the bridge 9 View from the bridge - the A6 on the right, layby with butty wagon under the trees, then the canal 10 Morecambe Bay from the bridge - the cables going across the pic and the white pole on far right are on the West Coast main line which is just below the wire fence in the foreground |

Today in Pictures, a walk in two parts.
1. Stream that runs past Platts lodge and the Pals centre. 2. Looking over the small pond toward Platts Lodge. 3. I think this is the sluice gate from the lodge. 4.& 5 The Cinnabar Moth Caterpillar. 6. Part two, toward the canal from Altham. 7. Piggin eck, another bath night. 8. I wish I had seen this when it was a working whatever it was. 9. I think this Damselfly is watching me. 10. Hey you, hop it. |

at the corner of Cross St & becomes the Hyndburn. 3 Is the head gear for the sluice gate known as a worm and screw. Bullough's used it to control the flow from the lodge. Retlaw |

Thanks for that, I often come across streams and bits of water that I dont know the name of, and that info filled in a blank. I have walked most of Hyndburn Brook where it is above ground. |

We parked near the station when we arrived at Grange over Sands yesterday so here are some photos of that very attractive building.
Featuring ornate cast iron and glass awnings, the buildings date back to 1864 and were designed by Lancaster architect Edward Paley for the Furness Railway Company. The station was extensively restored in the late 1990s, receiving a Heritage Trust Award in 1998. |
Re: Today in pictures
Lovely building as you say. Has been painted in similar colours to Accrington market hall.
