A series of shots to show the rain and the aftermath around the farm. Also managed to capture some droplets alla Dave!:Banane30:

It had to rain eventually, opening up a whole new avenue for photos, your outbuildings are very photogenic, all those arches. some nice wet shots there.

It does seem to me to be a bit strange, as the tree stumps were a bit of a hike into the woods, there are about 30 coins so far in the most hammered one, there is another with a handful of coins hammered in ( do they take a hammer with them )

I believe a big stone is the tool of choice.

Sounds a bit dangerous to me, holding a coin and swinging a rock.

From the Wikipedia site quoted yesterday:

In the glen of the Aira Beck near Aira Force is a wish tree formed from a large fallen tree trunk into which the many visitors hammer coins using stones from nearby.

I've seen this tree, it is so full of coins you can't see the wood.

It doesn't say how many banged their thumbs, or hit the people standing behind. Also why are they small denominations and not pound coins. Why are there no sightings of people doing this, it should be further investigated.

A recent sighting near Bolton Abbey Dave!;)

It's tuppence for luck - pound coins would be hard to get in and you have to bend them once in so they don't come out again.

Apparently I'll now live to be 100!:D

A walk from Newlands to Ard Crag with a stop off in Keswick to see Derwent Water on the way back. A place close to my heart as it's where I was conceived during the freezing winter of '62/'63 on my parents honeymoon -apparently you could skate on the Lake! Hard to imagine...

Finished my daily quota with two nice pics of the dry stone wall just outside the mobile home at Park Foot where I stay on Ullswater.

1 Ard Crag
2 Ascent to Ard Crag from Newlands
3 View across to Hellvellyn from the top
4 View to Derwent Water from the top
5-6 Views of Derwent Water
7-8 Dry stone wall

(As an aside, the story of Mrs Tiggywinkle by Beatrix Potter is set in Newlands and the paintings in the book were all done in the valley.) :thankya:

Last few pics from Grange on Tuesday...

1 My house is over there somewhere - view towards Morecambe in the haze. The two large blocks are the nuclear power stations at Heysham. The grass in the foreground was a beach before the River Kent shifted its course away from the shore
2 View from the promenade looking north
3 Holm Island
4 The promenade looking south. The building on the right is the back of the railway station
5 Bench outside the station. I have seen similar benches in Ulverston
6 Cardoon in the station garden. A relative of thistles and globe artichokes, very decorative
7 Grange hotel stables, now a housing development
8 The Grange hotel, built to cater for tourism after the advent of the railway
