Re: Today in pictures
rather use the zoom ... that way i dont get too close dont like insects too much .. they sting, they bite and i end up wi a big red spot ... plus the camera refuses to take pics from time to time ... kind of saying that its too close or its zoomed in too much ...

this camera ive got now was my christmas pressie 4 years ago from the spugster ... have took something like 18000 photos with it .... :D its been dropped, photos in the rain, kicked etc etc ... think the only thing i havent done to it is set fire to it ... but it fits in my pocket, it has AA batteries not a rechargeable one that will run out after taking 300 photos ... and thats the problem ... 90% of the cameras nowadays are the rechargeable batteries ... i prefer the AA batteries ...that way when it runs out ..i can change em and you can get them everywhere. Like on saturday .. i took over 700 photos of the preston guild .. i wouldnt have got half of them if it had been a rechargeable one. |
Re: Today in pictures
My camera has a rechargeable battery and it takes pictures forever.......I haven't calculated how many exactly......but in Wales I took more that 200 pics with it and it still hasn't been charged.
I have a spare battery too, which is charged and in the camera case. My Camera has a GPS setting....if that is switched on then the battery doesn't last long, but I check that the GPS is off. I like my little camera......I haven't tried dropping it, or kicking it...and I am a bit reluctant to take it out in the rain........but Davemac has a similar camera and rain doesn't seem to stop him from taking pics. |

I think Gremlin might appreciate some of these too! Weigh-scales and chains given a seppia effect. |
Re: Today in pictures
i too have a rechargeable, and mine is a dslr, canon eos d400, i have 2 batteries, when i go on walkabout, the battery will last me a good 24hrs, so 48 hours (i think about it as time before i need to find electricity), i also have 2 lenses a 18-55mm, and a 75-200mm, the problem i am facing is, the weight difference between that and a little compact i have, but the canon takes miles better pictures, when you are carrying 15kg round up fells, it makes a difference by the end of day 2, plus everything is usually "damp" by then, so it weighs at least 20kg, the weight of a full dslr with the lenses, compared to the weight of a compact, i might take em both next time and compare the pictures, a future possible thread there?

I think you should talk to somebody about this. What type of compact have you got, and how is the canon taking better shots. I just get curious how people take shots and what equipment they have used, especially if I think "I wished I had taken that shot" |

The advice I got regarding macro is to get as close as possible, if there is a slight movement left or right then it will be exaggerated the further away you are, basic trigonometry. The lady who does my gardening was watching me take the photo of the butterfly and she said I was only an inch away. The trouble with getting too close is the light can be blocked out by the camera if you are not taking notice, I also only use manual focus. My main interest is big machinery or vehicles, motorcycles, steam engines, ships, planes or lorries. Although they are not "Today in pictures" the ones below are some I took for the magazine, I used a film camera rather then digital for some of them and lost a bit of quality through scanning them. |

Having said that we all choose a camera for different reasons, my main reason for choosing mine was, it had to fit in my top pocket. Not a photographical reason, but a reason to take photos, as its always in my top pocket. I even have a pocket in my pyjamas, just for chance something crops up in the night.:camera8: |
