Re: Today in pictures

Well I'll have to be careful with my numbers today, since despite Gremlin's very generous allocation of two of his number to me yesterday, the two pictures I posted to help with the discussion on faces in the glass yesterday have both been removed. Hope it hasn't spoilt the discussion too much, but watch out you lot - the mods are about - sometimes!

The good news is that I received karma for one of the posts and that hasn't disappeared!

Could it be the ghost who removed it now you exposed it?

No chance, ghosts don't exist just in case you think I have lost the plot.

That's a thought but I don't believe in them either...

Went to the hosp in Lancaster for treatment on Tues and afterwards for a walk on the canal. Very dull and cold but stayed fine while I was out. Lots of pics, starting with some autumnal stuff and some more trees... There seems to be a lot of berries around at the moment - are we in for a hard winter?

1 Tree in the hospital grounds, not sure what but nice berries
2-4 Ivy is starting to flower just now
5&6 Cotoneaster growing round a railing
7 Think these trees are dying but putting on a good show of berries in the meantime
8 Rowan tree in the White Cross office complex
9 Tree on the canal side by the A6 bridge
10 Trees and bushes on both sides of the canal

Nice photos Susie, I can't tell one tree from another.

I used to deliver to Storey's at White Cross with chemicals in my tanker.
It's amazing anything grows there with all the stuff that was splashed about.

Perhaps that's why those trees in pic 7 are dying.

Is there anywhere you haven't delivered to in your time?

Today in Pictures, Its about 50 years since I went to Cocker Lumb, and it will be another 50 before I do it again.

1. The stream where once I had an ice cream.
2. Disappointed I head for Pot House Lane, via the deepest mud I have ever glooped through, a look back first.
3. I arrive eventually at the waterfall above Jackhouse reservoir.
4. Due to the amount of water plummeting towards me I have to walk around a swollen feeder stream, thats the way across.
5. After a detour I arrive at the thundering waterfall.
6. Well it was just there, I had to take a snap. You get a lot for your money on this one, fungi, moss,a slug, droplets, a bit of a web, and a waterfall.
7. At the furthest point I snapped Pendle Hill.
8. I nearly missed these, they were no bigger than half a match.
9. Then the fungi monitor activated, it was three green and two red LED'S. So had to snap these on the way down.
10. At this point the fungi monitor went ballistic, it was three green, three red and a three cherries, I went a bit giddy at this point.

Nice ones Dave reminded me of when I was a kid. I think he last time I was at Cocker Lumb was about55years since. I was brought up in Green Haworth on Nigher Frier Hill Farm

Its not the place of my youth, all fenced off now, no corner house selling crisps, no area to sit by the stream, no place to lick the living daylights out of a lolly, I was challenged by a house owner for taking pictures, the only place I have been, He was pleasant enough when I explained my reason for the snaps, and directed me to the footpath to Pot House Lane.

It was certainly an adventure, I was wet, then dry, wet again, then dry etc etc, I was slurping through ankle deep mud and "stuff", but in a strange way , yes, a good day out.

Are you sure you hadn't been eating some of those mushrooms Dave?

Love the one of Pendle with the big white hat on!

More from your roving reporter by the canal in Lancaster on Tuesday.

1 Hogweed seedhead
2 Raindrops on a Mahonia leaf
3 Mahonia bush from below
4 There was this tree stump...
5 ... with spider's web...
6 ... and an old fungus...
7 ... and another which was so hard I thought it was stone...
8 ... and a hollow in the top...
9 ... and a lolly stick to complete the picture
10 Not cobbles - the wall at the side of the canal, holding up the hospital grounds

Devon and Cornwall but I did go in my car.

The last ten years were the best, I didn't go any where South of the Manchester Ship Canal. Scottish air is much nicer than Cockney smog.
