The corn has barely started growing here - summer is beautiful where you are :)

Today, a couple of short walks around the usual haunts plus a walk through a very nice farmers field down to hyndburn brook.

1. Some purple flowers.
2 & 3. Hyndburn Brook
4. A horny cow, there is however a bull over there that doesn`t like dogs, I have been warned.
5 Flying high
6. Seeing these all over now.
7. A Magpie.
8. I was trying to get a pic of the flies, but the auto focus went for the bird.
9. I think it`s following me.
10. A wellycopter.

Number one looks like 'digitalis purpurea'.....the foxglove and well known heart medication.

Thanks, the farmer said he had a six foot tall foxglove at the back of the farm house but I didn`t know what it was. He was a very nice chap, said I can walk around down by the brook so long as I stay away from the bull that doesn`t like dogs and don`t damage any fencing.

Although used as a heart stimulant, the leaves(as few as two of them) can be lethal.

Firstly, a few flower shots from mine and my neighbour's garden.
1. Campfire Rose, named after painter Tom Thompson. It's developed to survive our Canadian climate. We'll see!
2.and 3. Peonies
4. Out on the road: speed bump ahead!
5. and 6. Badlands from the side of the road. They're clay deposits layered with shale, I believe.
7. Fun to scamper about
8. What's going on here?
9. Oh dear.
10. A lot of wildlife about at this time of day. I saw a deer on the road (thankfully before we had an altercation with it) and this is a wild turkey.

Interesting rock formations, and its only when the people are in the photo that the scale is realised

Today in Pictures, this is probably the last time I will visit this once peaceful walk until the weather drives the nutters away. Kids jumping in the water by the weir, lighting fires (2), cans and disposable barbecues, all left behind later, a motorbike shared between another group tearing around the fields by the Devils Bridge.

1. Common Spotted Orchid in a large drift.
2. British fighting cows wander across the grasslands.
3. Himalayan Balsam, just starting to come into flower, wont be long before they are a dominant flower.
4. River Hyndburn off to the right, and the trees in the direction of Rishton.
5. Some areas still have meadow flowers.
6. To my back is the bridge over the M65.
7. Same area, just a bit further up.
8. Same area, a lot further up.
9. Heading back.
10. The fighting Cows, trying to escape the noise of the motorbike.

Good job on capturing beautiful, peaceful countryside, in spite of the obstacles. Those British fighting cows are something to be reckoned with :)
