I have no angle Mr Jones. I can barely deal with 180° lines in my everyday life. I'm not red or blue or yellow or green (in fact I was born colour-blind, I'll spin you a few humourous yarns on that if you're lucky). I don't care about you or your party or your politics. Even though I consider AndrewB a friend, he knows full well that I'll challenge him publicly about anything I disagree with. Everything I have posted in this thread is therefore completely and categorically objective. Still think I'm targetting you? Look. I have no opinion on the council tax issues that have arose in this thread because I don't understand them properly. I have no opinion on the allowances issues for the same reason. The only thing that I felt I wanted to comment on was the oft' ridiculous content of posts by politicians/councillors. You just happened to be the main culprit in my eyes. I have found that part of growing up is knowing when not to throw yourself head first into something you know nothing or little about. Think of that notion, and then read post number one. Perhaps you'll realise why I feel compelled to highlight the high population of farce in your posts. |

Would have helped if you had mentioned this in the first place, just came across as if you were trying to score brownie points. You are still saying though "if you need the money and are entitled to claim it as an expense then good on you" As per Garinda's comment on people's right 'not' to claim them, I disagree. Employees in the past have fought for these, and should be used by everyone .. think any Employer would consider you stupid if you didn't anyway. I know if I had had a colleague who did not claim for mileage allowance when using their car on company business, would have been considered as some sort of toadying git (language moderated here :D), in a councillors case maybe extra votes. |

Clare mentioned she is lucky that her children are looked after by her parents. Should she put them in a nursery instead, and submit a childcare alowance, just because she can? Sounds daft to me. Also if you were staying away overnight on business, and weren't hungry and just wanted to have a bath and hit the hay, should you call room service and order something just because you can? I certainly never did that, nor would I. Allowances are there to make sure no one is out of pocket. It's personal choice if you want to use them. |

Just if you have had to use the expenses paid facility, then you should claim as opposed to not putting in a claim when you have had a meal, etc. Think we are at cross purposes here. |

This is getting way off topic, wandering all over the back 40 so to speak ... so let's get back to some serious, thoughful discussion: now, those custards: do they have a sprinkling of nutmeg on them?;)

By the way, what kind of voter turnout do you have in borough elections? As opposed to, say, elections for the national government? I would presume, tho' I don't know, that turnout for the European elections would be small. |
Re: Anyone made a secret Freedom Of Info request about me ? Andrew?
Normally more turn out when its the general election rather than local elections.
These are from hyndburn borough councils website. Search results Overall turnout at the last Borough Council Elections held in May 2008 was 37.85%. View the 2008 Borough Council Election results. Overall turnout at the County Council Elections in Hyndburn held in May 2005 was 59.47%. For the Parliamentary Election held in May 2005, the electorate was 66,543. The turnout in Hyndburn was 59.59% The general election and county council election were both on the same day. European elections are one on their own ... |

Cos what happens with the european elections meaning its one on its own ... im dreading going and voting in june .... cos their elections are totally different to what happens in ours ......... ok according to their website ... the north west turn out was 41.46% ... 2004 Election Results | UK Office of the European Parliament This is because instead of first past the post its proportional representation ... European Elections | UK Office of the European Parliament |

Thanks guys for the info. .... so voter turnout is not all that great ... I wonder if it is lack of interest, shortage of grey matter, a sense of futility .... mmm, now if they allowed politicians to bribe voters, that may work ... let's bring wide open bribery and corruption, and do away with the secret ballot ....:mosher:
