Part 1.On a wet day, with a smile on my face, and a song in my heart, I ventured forth, and came fifth. Anyway here is Today in Pictures.

Part 2. Today in Pictures, a study in moistness.
10. I really am getting fed up now. 11. Up past the golf course, towards sunnybank, (thats a joke). 12. Left turn to the Hyndburn pub, you can tell by the speed I am "fair legging it". 13. Down to the dip. 14. Up towards the Sparth. 15. Through the Woodlands. 16. Up the canal brew. I was glad to get home today. |
Re: Today in pictures
Didn't venture out except for shopping.
Miss Bossy Drawers was 7 yesterday and got a pink camera....a real camera...a grown up camera, for her birthday(some girls have all the luck). She brought it over with her in a hope that we would go for a walk, and take some pictures....she was sadly disappointed. She went to the window many times to check if the weather was letting up - it wasn't....so we stayed indoors. |

Re: Today in pictures
We(Miss Bossy and Spindles) did the walk, but camera stayed at home due to the damp.
We went as far as Altham Marina and then back again. Spindles was fixated on pike - he wanted to know how big they were, and if they really ate the ducklings and the cygnets. We did see the swans and their five cygnets when we were almost home........and fed them some healthy muti-grain bread. Alas, no pictures today. |
Re: Today in pictures

seriously though, it cant rain forever, or can it? |
Re: Today in pictures
Confucius he say......
'Blessed are they who expect nothing - they will never know disappointment'. While we were up at Altham Marina there was a chap with a pile of wood, a hammer and some special nails. It looked very much like he was building some kind of boat. I heard a chap shout to him 'Noah - you are going to need a lot more wood than that'. So, maybe he knows something and isn't letting on :) |
Re: Today in pictures
Again too wet to venture out.
Himself asked if I would like a trip over to Blackburn on the bus.......I told him that I would rather vist Great Harwood on half day closing....or eat my eyeballs with a rusty spoon. So, no pics today. |
Re: Today in pictures
Yeh sent the mrs up coppice with max today .They both come back like drowned rats. Still we are luckier than those on holiday in Wales in caravans or tents.

Gordon, Davemac has taken quite a few pics.....there is a very good one where Bob(his dog) is sitting on the monument looking down over Accrington.

I think you will see from todays contribution, I was the only person out in the rain, well almost.
Today in Pictures, moisture in motion. 1. Accy Cem main drive. Used to work here for a few years. 2. Accy crem. Worked here as well. 3. Looking back up the main drive. 4. Off to Oak Hill Park, used to work here as well, a view of the war memorial. 5. Shelter, top of rockery. 6. Bandstand with coppice behind. 7. This used to be my "mess room", well the bit I sat in, they knocked down. 8. A look up the main drive, The bed with lupins, I used to double dig this with loads of "hoss muck". 9. This was the first view of Oak Hill Park I got when I turned up to start my apprenticeship. 10. And finally back down Manchester Road, time for a brew. There are a million stories in Today in Pictures, this has been one of them. Dave mac, reporting for BBC News, handing you back to the studio. |
Re: Today in pictures
I don't know how you do it........even the pictures of the Crem look good.
I keep promising myself a visit to Oakhill Park. I spent many happy hours playing there when I should have been at the Wesley Methodist Sunday school...spent the collection money on Beech Nut...but that's another story. |

Notice the headstones and vault markers close to the chapels are the biggest in the cemetery, these places were reserved for the movers and shapers (the money) of the borough. This is so that the people visiting the chapels would notice the families of importance, snobbery in death, allegedly. |

We went to the dump at lunchtime but I didn't take my camera. I did have a wander round my garden when I got back...
1 Honeysuckle on the fence, just coming into flower 2 Honeysuckle in closeup 3 Blue geranium and a Welsh poppy (can't avoid those in shots, they're everywhere!) 4 My garden gnome's coming out to play - he's just got to find his pointy hat and fishing rod 5 Get some cream ready - these will soon be raspberries 6 Oriental poppy and snail - last week this was just bursting forth from its bud - the others have yet to follow 7 Opinions differ - Allium bulgaricum or Nectaroscordum bulgaricum - whatever, it's an ornamental onion - you can tell by the smell! |

More flowers from my garden...
1 Stachys lanata (Lambs' ears) 2 Lamium beacon silver 3 Clashing colours - the pile of slabs in bottom rh corner is indicative of the general state of the garden - will soon be having yet more excavations to find problems with the drains. also our back fence blew down in the winter and the scaffolding has just come down off the back of next door, where they removed and replaced four storeys of rendering, meaning large chunks of it ended up on our side! 4 Cardoon, taller than me, though that's not difficult. It's got large thistle like flowers similar to a globe artichoke which are good for drying. And you can eat the stems, taste like artichoke 5 Ivy leaved toadflax 6 Floral tapestry |

11. Looking right as we go down the path. 12. The priests walk, arriving at Wilson's Playing Field. 13. Right turn down Whalley Road. 14. Up some dodgy steps. 15. Path behind the Hyndburn Pub. 16. Left turn towards Lower Barnes Street, a dodgy path with snarling guard dogs, but views off to the side. 17. Here we arrive at the very base of Lower Barnes Street. 18. Up Barnes Street towards the park and out the other end. 19. Up the Ginnel towards Hygiene. 20. Then up Checkers, along the canal, and home. Clapped out, tired, hungry, thirsty, but still dry, at last. |

Today I spotted an alien presence in my greenhouse. There's a lot of glass missing, no plants and a lot of rubbish in there as we're getting rid of it and having a new one. It's still a good place for an afternoon nap...
1 First sighting... 2 Waking up 3 Getting closer 4 Not sure... 5 Can I get through that hole and on to the wall? 6 Perhaps not... 7 It's warmer in here 8 My garden gnome has a camera as well as a fishing rod 9 The green men who guard my shed 10 One day I might get a fig - in the meantime it might be useful if I run out of clothes Can't tell you how many black and white cats there are round here - and we had one too till recently. I'm thinking of getting mugshots of all of them plus records of their markings - then I might be able to tell em apart. |

Unable to post "today in pictures" today. The computer has been taking the mickey for a month or so, but today it went without a bra,but instead of going down they went up. Anyway, after it went "boobs up" found the receipt, and tootled off to PC World(its still warrantied). they say it will take at least two weeks.
Got out the standby laptop, everything had, and still has to be updated, so i'v been a bit distracted. Still have to put on my camera software. Will be uploading again when I get this all sorted. |

I think I might have his twin brother(except he is a technophobe and relies on me with anything that has more than an on/off switch).
Himself and I have been going to Manchester for a number of years, yet I swear if I turned him round three times and ran off, he would be lost......and what is is about them not asking directions anywhere? This must be a male thing as my son-in-law is exactly the same. He has no inbuilt compass either. |
