This is the end of your lovely day in Morecambe Jen - it just rained (10pm)! Wasn't supposed to according to the weather forecast.

There must have been a sunset but I missed it, you can still see a bit of pink in some pics. The last two are taken looking inland towards Lancaster, an interesting combination of grey, blue and white in the sky.

No ours wasn't anything as posh as Maine Coon, just an ordinary fluffy tabby stray, and a pretty miserable one at that! Our first cat was a biggie though - a kitten rescued from a skip at 6 weeks, grew to weigh a stone and a half - and he wasn't fat! When we first got him he disappeared on his first night - we found him curled up inside the works at the back of the fridge - we reckoned the noise of the motor reminded him of his mum! He was actually thick as two short planks but lovable for all that!

Thanks for the pics Jen, I'm glad it was such a nice day weatherwise and you obviously had a great time. I'm sure the drive home through Bowland was an added bonus - I love stopping at that lookout tower, the view is amazing - even in the dark when you can see all the lights for miles around.

It's good to see one's home through someone else's eyes - I hardly notice all the bird statues etc any more yet they are they one of the town's major attractions supposedly! Glad to see you made it up the prom almost as far as our house - we live just behind the prom near the yacht club's house on stilts!

Lovely set of pictures, it looked a nice day, and you looked to have the beach to yourselves. I haven't been there for more years than I can remember, it looks to have changed beyond recognition. I wouldn't have known that if you hadn't posted the pictures.

There is a rule on this thread that if you go to the seaside you have to bring us all a stick of rock back, what arrangements are in place for the collection.

Its a fact that other peoples eyes don't see what you do, and it is always good to look at something from a different perspective.
I think I would burst a blood vessel if I came across all those statues, carvings, beaches, cabins, sunsets, by trying to photograph everything all at once.

Ha ha Cashy I had thought of that possibility before posting and nearly looked it up but then thought why bother. However I have now googled it just out of interest and here goes with the origin of the name:

The name 'Maine' comes form the North eastern American State where the breed is thought to have originated. The 'Coon' bit is a little more difficult. The original cats tended to be brown tabbies, with very dark back and a long flowing tail, rather like a raccoon, and long ago, people thought that they must have evolved from matings between domestic cats and raccoons. Of course we now know that this is genetically impossible, but this may have been where the name came from.

But the Maine Coon's pride and joy is his tail. In fact he is often referred to as 'the tail with the cat on the end'. The tail must be at least as long as the body and is especially long so that the cat can wrap it around its body rather like a blanket for extra insulation.

What is a Maine Coon

Margaret Pilkington 12-07-2012 12:19

Re: Today in pictures

My rescued Maine Coon had had to have his tail amputated after getting into a fight with a dog(not while I had him)......but the tail went gangrenous and was amputated very close to his bottom...so he didn't even have a stump of a tail.
He was not friendly...had yellow eyes and a bed temper.
He only started letting himself be petted just before he died.

Was the video taken some time ago? I can see it's the same wall - with a beer bottle - but Tigger looks younger, less fluffy and greyer than in the Flickr pics.

OK for post 924:

1 Honeysuckle or Woodbine, Lonicera periclynum
2 Yarrow, Achillea millefolium
3 Hawkweed, could be one of a thousand species but possibly Mouse ear Hawkweed, Hieracium pilosella
4 Same as 2, or possibly not
5 Think that's a bramble flower, can't see anything else it might be part of
6 Sea pea, Lathyrus japonica
7 Another bramble, with white frilly petals this time!
8 Evening primrose, Oenothera biennis. God I hate that plant. It's got a really sickly perfume in the evening and at one time it was self seeding all over my garden - not where I am now thank goodness. Not a primrose at all.
9 White Rosa rugosa
10 One of Davemac's orchids I think - plus another hawkweed. Will have a think and see if I can narrow it down a bit.

2. Over the motorway bridge.
3. Through Castle Clough.
4. Do I take the high road or you take the low road.
5. By the left, this looks risky.
6. I can hear a woman crying for help and someone playing a piano.
7. That was scary.
8. This is where the nice waterfall in Castle Clough comes out, its a bit manky.
9. I've never been this far up, and on the wrong side of the canal.
10. My map says that Shuttelworth Hall?

14. See.
15. More rerflections.
16. And more.
17. And more.
18. And more.
19. That cheeky man is taking my photo, the cheek.
20. More reflections.

22. I see the shoe trees are fruiting early this year, I haven't a clue!
23. Another bridge.
24. View from the bridge.
25. Looking back as we sit down for a moment.
26. Looking back as we cross the motorway bridge.
27. This was the site of Huncoat pit.
28. I assume this was one of the roads into the pit, but just a guess.
29. Last bridge, over the tracks at Huncoat station.
30. A view the other way, then back to the car.

You managed to capture some of the same colours as I did, I don't manage to spot many sunsets so my contributions will be few and far between.
I leave it to those better placed, and more able than myself.
I will stick to my subjects, which are wet water and wickthings, and if I can get a wickthing in water , well, then I am beside myself.

Trouble is it could be any time of day depending on high tide, and they don't always come that way... got better things to do than wait around!

Today in Pictures. A wet day in Hyndburn, nothing exciting to report today, but here is my contribution.

1. Lets start off with a wickthing.
2. Watching the Coppice vanish in the clouds.
3. The Coppice, a bit further round.
4. The crop of Perpignolies are almost ready in the greenhouses.
5. The arches zoomed in.
6. Looking one way on the viaduct.
7. Looking the other way.

They don't work well in the wet, but I do dangle from a bunch of helium filled balloons under moist conditions

Wow, what fantastic pictures they are! Absolutely beautiful.

Thank you Margaret, I've just spent a lovely twenty minutes or so looking at Davemac's photos, a lot of which I've seen on this thread but without the depth and clarity on Flickr.
Davemac you really are talented, your pictures are beautiful, thank you so much for taking me away into a beautiful place for a while!

yesterdays Today in Pictures. just to finish off my collection of yesterdays sunsets, I had such a large curiculum yesterday there wasnt enough hours in Thursday.

The locations didnt change, but the colours did as you watched.

I think I have peaked, I dont think I will have anymore like that for a while

The first picture would suggest you have a high field to the rear of you property, this suggests to me a good vantage point for sunsets, night shots with a tripod, panoramics, looks like the worlds your lobster there.

Re: Today in pictures

Yeah i agree and usually it messes up forums doing this. Its just for show. There is loads of options when you click share and mess with the BBcode. This way you dont have to edit and re size for accywebs filesize limit and use flickr to host the pics. The re sizing is done on the fly automatically.

Though I signed up ages ago(to make a comment) I have no idea why I have never used flickr. Much better than photobucket. Thanks!

theres a reason why you dont go up there dave ... the reason being you dont know whats in that field ... sometimes sheep, sometimes cows, sometimes bulls plus the owner does not like you trespassing ....

That would be a problem, just a thought, I don't want to encourage trespass, well not openly

Have been tour guide to my cousin and her partner for the last 2 days around Cremona. Took a few pics. Two different examples of Cobbles in Cremona are included -mediaeval and Roman -the roman road is viewable through glass in Via Solferino -it's about 2 and a half metres below current ground level.

In Via Solferino there is a beautiful old shop (established 1836) where I buy certain delicious little sweets, Pastiglie Leone, which have been mentioned on Accyweb in the past! We had a good look round the center and visited the Town Hall and the Stradivarius collection -no photos allowed in there though! We had to wait at the bar and had delicious iced coffee while the BBC were filming the violin collection -they were also filming the Cathedral square after -don't know what programme it will be though!

Tried to get some interesting reflections following Dave Mac's lead...it's hard taking photos with a crutch in hand so I did my best and hope you like them:hothothot
