It's a beautiful tree - is it the one the Cheshire Cat was fond of? Coincidentally it's in the same family as the not-willow herb that Dave posted last night!

Pic no 1 is worthy of a postcard or print - amazing.

Pic 1 was taken in a snow storm looking out of my dining room window!

Saw the "La" but thought it was a mistake and they hadn't detached the Italian article La -had to look up the spelling! Everyone here calls them Gerstroemia! There are a whole row of them outside the house here -I did have 3 but the resident Tractor driving idiot on the farm killed two of mine the other year when he put neat weedkiller down to kill the weeds in the courtyard in front -half killed the one Rufus loved which is where the Mantis has taken up residence! Note new tables and chairs outside and blue skies -hot again!

Will take a pic of it to show how it's been ruined -makes me cry to see it -criminal!

Not at all! Lovely and very clever too -Sue told me about photoscape and I had a look the other day quickly -will have to spend some more time on it! Presume that's how you did your purple pillar box too -psychedelic! I also like photographing old post boxes -my favourite is the Victorian one in Howtown which I've taken a few times over the years...another fixation of mine. The one in Dacre is Georgian:o:rolleyes:

As for removing a photo you have posted twice...you may be able to do it...go back into Advanced mode and it will list the pics under Manage Attachements.......and you should be able to Browse your files too...there should be a remove option...unless of course you have run out of edit time.

Put it down to the inertia of the thread, we will stick to the 10 per day, but I don't think threatening to close the thread will be a popular move, and I for one, start with this thread, and if it wasn't here I would no longer be on Accy Web.

I started this thread as a way of escaping the nasty threads that were posted elsewhere on this site. I don't think removing the good stuff and leaving the venomous stuff is the answer, so there you have it, I bounce the ball back to you.

Common Mallow grows in open, dry (well drained), nutrient-rich soil, Loosestrife likes damp places, Dave actually photographed it growing in water. Mallow is altogether bushier and sturdier than loosestrife, whose flowers are much smaller than either mallow or willow herb.

Actually yes there are some willow herbs with small flowers, some of them are a bit weedy.

Funny, my dad lived on Lodgeside for a short while about 30 years ago, only visited him there a couple of times, never realised there actually was a lodge down there!!

Not wanting to let the matter drop, and no response from Mick, I would argue that saying on one day that the number of pictures posted has to be reduced, and the very next saying the thread would be deleted if we didn't act instantly, is to my mind a heavy handed act, and an enforcement of a rule that does not exist for the forum.

People have taken ownership of this thread, and have been inspired to purchase new cameras to contribute to this thread. Is this commitment to be ignored!

It has been brought to my attention that the picture competitions no longer are run on this forum, therefore the capacity released by this act is available to the "Today in Pictures" thread, It isn't enforced on other threads that post pictures, so why the sledgehammer on this one.

Market day in Castelverde -got a few funny looks from my fellow villagers as I snapped a few shots! I bought some fresh bread, fruit and some ready fried "Merluzzo" which is battered salt cod (very nice!) from a specialist stall - its very good but not as nice as English cod'n'chips;)

The pink building in the square is our Town Hall (Municipio). Quite a few people about, it's a popular little market, though when it's hot most people go earlier. I got home at 10-45am and am now shuttered in against the mad hours - will open up again and start to breath (hopefully) after 7-30pm! It was so hot last night that with windows open and fans on I didn't get to sleep till after one am....was in bed at eleven after a cool shower...:hothothot:

Re: Today in pictures

Dave, I am sure that it is a cost issue......space has to bought from the server.
Some people who come on the site pay a subscription, but many others do not...there is only so much money to go around.

I know Mick fairly well, and he is not into a heavy handed way of dealing with things...in fact he is a most helpful moderator(not that I am saying the others aren't- but most of my dealings with mods have been with Mick).
The picture competitions (which were sometimes very poorly paticipated in) were abandoned because of a problem with the software(I think -I'm sure Mick will correct me if I have got it wrong).

I am not taking sides here, but just trying to be diplomatic in explaining why things are the way they are.

Post ten pics and link to Flickr so that people can see the rest of your pictures there...that way you follow the rules, but allow those who like to see what you have been doing, and where you have been, to peep over your shoulder.

Re: Today in pictures

On this particular issue, I think it has been dealt with rather heavily, to ask for the photos to be reduced in size on the 24/7/12. then say the thread will be deleted on 26/07/12 if we don't comply, is not diplomatic by any stretch of the imagination

I am not against the limit of 10 photos per day, after reducing them in size, although I am not sure if making up the rules as you go along offers clarity of vision, which this appears top be.

Would it not have been better to instruct users who are posting either too many photos ( I am guilty of this), or are posting without reduction, the correct way to post.
I find a helping hand is better than a slap in the face.

I hold this thread up as a positive thread for the website, with no nasty post having been posted. This thread has had 1330 posts with 15,519 views, and all of it is family friendly.
Yes I have got on my high horse, but only because I will defend this positive thread, and a threat to close it will not be tolerated.

I would however ask for people to perhaps look at the possibility of a small contribution to the site, I do, and will make another one this weekend.

right rant over, I'm off to a darkened room, as my dander is close to bursting

Re: Today in pictures

do you want me to come with a cool flannel and some Lavender drops Dave???

I don't think this has come up before because we have never had a thread like this before....and to be fair, Mick doesn't make the rules, he only makes sure that whatever the rules are, they are complied with. You could always PM him and ask for clarification.
I think it is a 'costs issue'.
I am already a contributor and have been for quite a while. If you enjoy something then you should pay a little for its upkeep.(and I mean the 'you' in a collective sense rather than a personal one)

Looks like a better market than Accy and in a place with only just over 5000 inhabitants (according to Wikipedia). And not a fancy market hall or faux Victorian stall in sight!

Wasn't expecting to see a large African lady as in pic 6!

Re: Today in pictures

As the request to restrain posts coincided with the server maintenance earlier this week I am assuming/guessing that the two are connected. Haste may account for a certain possible lack of diplomacy in the way things were conducted. I think as Margaret says no unpleasantness was intended but there's no accounting for people's reactions.

I hope the dust is now beginning to settle and we can move on and continue to enjoy the thread - it certainly has been a breath of fresh air for a lot of people.

The woman sitting on the bench with the little girl outside the Town Hall (in shade so you can't see!) is Chinese. It is a very multi-ethnic village as is quite typical these days in Italy. I have Hindu and Sikh neighbours on the farm and there are also some Egyptians on a farm near us. I am the only English person though but there is a German lady too who i know and the village seamstress is Thai. As well as the village church there is a Sikh temple as there are numerous Indian families in this area working in the dairy industry -for them cows are sacred and they like working with them.

The African family live in a little hamlet called San Martino just half a mile away - very friendly -I was chatting to the large lady's daughter who is on the first photo holding her son (just checked she is behind the lady with her back to the camera!) -she works in a local restaurant where we go. The family provide the 3 kings every year for the villages living Nativity play!:D

It doesn't. That info streams from youtube/google servers not accyweb. Well the link and code is stored on here... but that is around 50-100bytes or something

The sentence above in bold prob takes up around 236bytes space who knows with all the code and stuff

When you add attachments here, they are uploaded to the accyweb server. The next 3 pictures I will upload here are 1.3MB imagine 20 a day from 3 or 4 users.

edit: this explains it better --- http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/redu...orage-usage-92

No it was a rocking horse, and yes it is rare but I have some.
Glad you found it, have you found all the carved rocks yet, there a bit mossed over now and not easy to spot.
I don't think lavender drops would come close, I was thinking ylang ylang, or a bit of jojoba, failing that a bit of honeycomb tripe.
Bobs on this set, but not his best side.

Right to business, Today in Pictures, Riley's swing bridge, the return.

1. Its very floral at this time of year.
2. First style to negotiate.
3. The second one, its not as overgrown now as it was when I tramped this way before, it was nettles past my armpits last time, that made them at least two foot tall.
4. Bob after he was lobbed over a style with no dog access.
5. Quick waft of honeysuckle before the dunk roundabout.
6. It was just like being in Paris, with the chairs and the smell of a sausage barmcake on the breeze.

Its not an option to close it, if it was up to me there would be no limit, but we have to be sensible, I think ten can be adapted to, but don't get me started again, I have just calmed down from my last rant. Also I think Mick is keeping a low profile hoping the heat will go out of the thread, the jury is still out on that one.

You have imposed a limit to the number of photos on the thread, we are trying to comply to this, as for moaning, I don't think defending the thread is a moan, I could say its you that is moaning, about the number we are posting

Finally got some pics with my new camera that are worthy of keeping rather than deleting. Still only up to page 24/77 in the manual!

Sorry it's the same old clouds and roofscape taken through window with varying degrees of zoom. Not much to photograph when you're in the house, not going out, don't want to risk infection as due for more chemo on Monday.
The first three are 10.30 this morning, rest about 4.30, we had some rain in between!

The last two, life is just a... yes I know I've eaten most of them!

Pic 8, you can see my camera is red from the reflection in the window!

I haven't read the instructions for my camera yet , I just take it out and use it. I'll read the instructions when something goes wrong, that's the way I do things. I use my SLR Camera for most things. Will post some later

Typical man, my other half's just the same!

This new one is very similar to my old camera but I never read the manual for that as my other half got the camera from France with a French manual. It wasn't till I downloaded it last week in English that I discovered things I never knew about! And I've had it five years! So now I'm starting with the manual...

Ships?? I see no ships!!
It's the yacht club storage yard, they take them out to the little house on stilts where they start the races every weekend.

The big grey shed is where they used to keep the hovercraft lifeboat until they built a new home for it right on the beach last year.

I don't think my photos need any explanation. I had been to put flowers on a grave and decided to take a few snaps while my wife had a quiet ride around on her mobo scooter.

OK, they may be a bit morbid but there isn't much else to take photos of in a graveyard apart from a part of the old quarry under the Coppice (I think it is).

Lovely pics posted by all yesterday -Nice one of Spire's farm -must get up that way again when I'm next over. Loved the reservoir photo 9 of Daves. Glad to see Sue is getting to grips with her new toy. Nice to see a new poster too -Gremlin -keep up the good work. Wish i could capture the moon! my camera's not good enough to give such definition.

Spent some time playing about on Photoscape yesterday which was fun -so much you can do, have told my mum about it too and she will be having a look at it today. Off to peruse my collection of photos and post a few -won't be out and about today -too hot again.

A few shots in and around Dacre church - famous for the Dacre bears -four statues which guard the church N,E,W,and S. Some believe they are mediaeval lions but they are standing upright. There's a shot of Dacre Castle over the stile. Some lovely stained glass windows from different eras and a beautiful etched one. Note the one dedicated to Willie Whitelaw.

The old lady was called Nellie - we got talking - she was originally from Blackburn. She was a real character in her 90's, saw her a few times over the years, she has since passed away.

I very rarely decide my walk until perhaps an hour before set off, I think this is due to the changeable weather and perhaps me not being able to make my mind up, possibly, well I think so, maybe.

I am always seeing pictures and thinking.....I wish I had taken it....feeling slightly...ever so slightly envious..but not in a nasty way. Anyway Sue....Glad you liked it.
Sometimes it is just a case of being in the right place at the right time....and having the right bit of kit in your pocket or hanging round your neck.

I'm sure photographers are also a bit like fishermen...there is always the one that they didn't manage to capture.......wasn't fast enough, hadn't got the camera...or whatever excuse springs to mind.
And Dave will attest, some of the pics we take, are the ones we nearly didn't bother with...they usually turn out the best.

Today in Pictures, what started as a short walk took me to Whitebirk Shopping Estate (The Rocket Centre )

1. Start point Cutwood Park, I intended to go home after this.
2. Well, I'll just watch the dinghy's for a while.
3. I'm mooching now, not a good sign.
4. That reminds me, the canal is just over there.
5. Well.......... a bit of a walk on here whilst its fine.
6. This is the bridge that takes trains over the Whitebirk Drive area.
7. Turn around and head home.
8. Glad it stopped fine, so far.
9. Almost at Rishton, lichen on a dead tree branch.
10. Hypericum growing wild on Cut Lane. on the way back to the car.

And there you have it, a short walk that took over two hours.

Has anyone got a clue as to what this used to be, there appears to be a concrete beam holding the structure to the shore, it is on the "fishing sides" you can only fish on three banks.

Not many pictures of people on here -difficult to take self-potraits although there was a glimpse of Sue in a reflection in her last lot with new camera.
Indulge me a little wishful thinking (this is where I want to be right now!) - a number of images of unphotogenic me -taken mostly by my friend Andrea and husband Dave while on our escapades in the Lakes.

It's 29°C inside -sweltering and I've promised to roast a chicken later for my son when he brings his girlfriend round for dinner -I must be mad!:D

Me dressed for wet weather, drinking Tea at Howtown (note silver service even for walkers!), I actually did come down that scramble (Dave in front to cut out the view as I have terrible vertigo!), stuffing my face in the lakes with a cream scone and eating ice-cream in Edinburgh, with god-daughter Ana by Long Meg, Girls on top of Gowbarrow Fell, on Howtown jetty and by the Ribble with my aunt this April (note gorgeous day in Lancs!) Was too ashamed to put me eating fish'n'chips in Fleetwood (I do nothing but eat it would seem) so have substituted it with me and friends Pia and Mariangela in Cremona for a lit. festival in June!
