7. Looking the length of the site.
8. There doesn't appear to be another soul around the site.
9. Perhaps I should go as well.
10. The Bracken on the left are just sending up fronds, the next time I return they will have smothered out a lot of other plants.

Well worth getting moist for, I'd say davemac :)

I'm just getting caught up with my favourite Accy Web thread... great photos everyone! I've been out and about and taking pictures, yet haven't had the where-withall to do anything with them until today.

Spring over here in southern Ontario has been one of extremes. Late starting, then coming on like gangbusters many of us were fooled into planting our annuals early. Me included! Then came frost, followed by bouts of 30 degree heat, followed by more frost. Then drought, then deluges of rain. Still, the display of blossoms was wonderful, and I managed to immerse myself as much as I could.

Last week I went up to Ottawa (a good six hour drive) with my 89 year old aunt to visit my mother and sister. I meant to get some shots there, but dealing with the 'battling grannies' left me too exhausted :(

I'll post shots over the next couple of days until I'm caught up.

No 1. Equipment for the visually impaired at Bank Street.
No 2. Our newly refurbished social room which we have named after Ken Hargreaves who was out "hands on" president up to his death.
No 3. A customer having a scanner/reader demonstrated.
No 4 and 5. Our new book shop in the Arndale selling books donated and the proceeds to go to the Blind Society.
No 6 and 7. I try to take a photo of a customer each week and pin it up calling it " Customer of the week", if your face appears there is a spare copy available.

No 8 and 9. My opium den.

Today was the day I decided to tiptoe around the turbines, and do you know whilst I was there not one turbine rotated, it was only when I had finished and was heading for the car that I heard them starting to rotate.

1. It was a day for cloudscapes, so had a play with a graduated filter.
2. Cotton Grass is punctuating the moors with a million full stops. Despite its name it is actually a sedge, and a sign that the land is more than a bit moist.
3. Standing guard over the town below.
4. Standing on the edge of the borough, down there is Rossendale.
5.This wall runs along the edge of Ossy Moors, stopping the invaders.
6. The clouds make me think I may get moist at any moment, then it dawns on me I am kneeling down in the peaty wet bits.
7. The clouds are starting to look a bit menacing.
8. This is the only tree I can see on the top of the moors for miles, I don't think it will ever get big enough to climb.
9. They are just starting to make rotation commencement noises, and as I am on my own up here(well almost) it does feel a bit spooky.
10. That is the way down to the car, and I can feel the large drops of rain hitting my ARP helmet, time to shift.

Re: Today in pictures

Quite a lot. The main difference my old camera was 14 Megapixels, this one is 24 Megapixels. I'm still playing with the settings menu and experimenting.

Gremlin 09-06-2015 16:18

Re: Today in pictures

My camera is 24 megapixel but I find the photos are too large ( pixel wise) to post on here and need a lot of down sizing. Unless you're careful you can finish up with an odd looking picture.
The good thing about the 25 MP size is the ability to print large photos without pixelation, even larger than A3 depending on the MP the printer can handle.
Good luck with messing with the settings Frank, it's half the fun and better than using photoshop to enchance or spoil the photo.

gpick24 09-06-2015 20:53

Extra megapixels will be good for cropping in close to the birds.

This is an example of cropping a large file and still having a reasonable picture. I took it from down near the railway station.
It started out as a wide shot of Whitby Abbey and hillside and was over 8Mb. I copped it down to what you see now and it was still 2Mb which I had to resize to post.

Today I thought I would go with a theme. And that theme is "Peanuts.":dancedog: And the first one, to set the tone, is peanuts. Number 2: Cadillac with peanut, followed by squirrel eating peanut. Then there's a tree; don't know how it got in there, but it's a nice tree. Then: angry squirrel demanding peanut. And last: my friend Angus defending peanuts from marauding squirrels.:alright:

Today's theme is very similar to yesterdays, buttercups ago-go, and other stuff that's just as go-go. The Coppice would, I thought, be very quiet this afternoon due to the Carnival, no such thing. A gun dog club, training by throwing lumpy things in the lodges. Most with Spinone's (Italian gun dogs), kids that remained behind after the procession departed, and miscellaneous other personnel.

Three weeks ago I drove up to Ottawa to visit family. After much persuasion my 89 year old aunty came with me. I think she enjoyed herself for the 4 days despite the 6 hour drive there and back. A very good friend of my late wife invited me to stay for a weekend at her home near Old Colwyn.

We had a ride up to the Great Orme.

1. Church one the sea side of the Orme.
2. An unusual monument for a lady, The inscription read " I fear naught but God"
3. Mine host preaching from the outdoor pulpit in the older Church.
4. Inside the older Church.
5. Bleak outlook over the grave stones.
6. The sculpture of a goat on the top of the Orme. There has been a big goat cull and we never saw one.
7. The stones laid out on the hillside with names of loved ones made from them.
8. A seagull. One of thousands swooping a diving.
9. Some snails.
10. A flower in a pond where people throw coins for luck, I'm either lucky all ready or tight fisted.

Have they brought back memories Margaret P?

I have more I took at the copper mine which I will post tomorrow.

Margaret Pilkington 14-06-2015 19:31

Re: Today in pictures

They certainly did Russell.
Is the Church the one you can see from the top of the Orme.
I have often meant to visit it, but it holds no real interest for Spindles and Miss Bossy.
Your pics made me a bit 'homesick'.
I have spent some very happy times in Llandudno, but it is over a year since we were last there.

Gremlin 14-06-2015 20:40

Re: Today in pictures

The two little Churches are on the sea side of the Orme Margaret. Half way up the back road. If you drive past the hotel on the seaside of the prom and carry on anti clockwise round the Orme you come to the road with the Churches on your left half way round. There are a few very sharp narrow hairpin bends and the church is on the last one. Carry on up and you hit the main road up from Llandudno by the tram station. Turn right to go up to the top. I've driven past a couple of times and also all the way round the Orme. It's a private road and the toll is three quids.
The town was packed out so we finished up having our tea at Rhos on sea.
I came back today in 95 minutes, traffic was very light, right foot very heavy.

Margaret Pilkington 14-06-2015 21:26

Re: Today in pictures

I would go on foot to see the little church.(I don't drive anymore)
I would like to look around the graveyard.....I have often looked down on it from the top of the Orme and thought it looked interesting.

Having spent a few minutes in the visitors centre on the top of Great Orme we decided to have a look around the old copper mine on the way down.
We walked and stumbled over two hundred yards underground, steep downhill in places then back round and out further round the cliff.

Next stop was Rhos on sea for a cream tea and rest my weary bones.

A mixed bag... some from May, others from this week and a couple from today.

1. Dusty Road, freshly washed car - doesn't make me happy.
2. Brightly coloured flowers at the garden centre - that DOES make me happy!
3. Female Oriole stealing nesting material from my balcony planter. This was taken through the glass, so not very sharp.
4. Let me out! Miss Pris getting quite worked up.
5. Fish watching me eat fish at the Chinese buffet - made me feel rather uncomfortable!
6. A chance encounter with a Snapping Turtle. They are often seen at this time of year, searching for places to lay their eggs.
7. They come by their name honestly - that neck can stretch out and take a chunk out of the unwary!
8. A face only a mother could love.

Thanks, I have to say I have no explanation as to what the thingys with eyes are, there are two of them, the tops are actually bicycle saddles back to back. I am not sure who looks after the bit of land they are on, but there is a step over to it from the church and also a gate into the pub car park

A labyrinth spider, he's there somewhere in the morning dew.
Woodland path leading up to Carn Fadryn.

It`s not all fun and games Margaret, up at 4, out at 5 to get to Kilmarnock for 9 makes it a long day. Not complaining though, I enjoy it when I get a day release.

I'm sure the lovely scenery was a compensation.
I would have loved a job which involved travel.....though I loved being a nurse.
I used to be up just after 5 and out of the house for the 5.50 bus....just to start duty at 7.30.
We do what we have to, to earn a crust(and a bit of jam).

A shortish walk today, from Vicarage Lane in Whalley through the fields to Spring Wood.

1. This stream will soon be close to houses, they are building from Whalley main Road right up to the edge of Spring Wood.
2. Whalley Nab just before we enter the woods and under the bypass.
3. These are the woods in question.
4. As we enter Spring Wood I am met by a whole drift of this Orchid.
5. There are a few tree stumps around the woods that people knock coins into, no idea why!
6. The Ferns now dominate under the canopy, if it was a bit warmer you would mistake it for tropical.
7. The cows are correct, it's raining now.
8.Heading back down in the rain, just a glimpse of the viaduct in Whalley.

Great shots, all of them. Particularly like the clouds.

It was a remarkably clear morning sky in these parts today. In the words of Canadian songwriter Jane Siberry: "A Speckless Sky:)

when you set off from home walking the tedster the sun shining, lovely blue skies and white fluffy clouds ... you think I don't need a waterproof .. so you take a wander around oakhill park, Haworth park, and wander back along bash lines ... and guess what it started raining while we were walking back under the trees on bash lines ... :p

Some Canadian All Too Short Summer madness...
I bought a few bargain priced ready-planted pots without really knowing what the flowers would turn out to be. Happy to see some Fuschias - I used to call them 'fairy flowers' when I was little, lilies, and bright red geraniums. The colour red attracts hummingbirds. It seems to be working. I keep my feeder filled with fresh syrup for them and every so often I hear a whir of wings. I was lucky enough to have my camera close by, and sat very still for ages as they're quite shy.

I'm not sure Jen, but I think its an Osteospermum or South African Daisy. I didn't look at the label when buying it, but liked the colour. I'll get back to you about it closing at night :)

Today was a walk on Pendle Hill to check out the cotton crop, just a pity the pollen count was on the high side.
